Charlie (00:27)
Alright guys, welcome back to another episode of the Blitz the Bookie podcast. I'm Charlie Winkle joined as always by Anthony Roberts. It is Monday, April the 14th and we are three weeks away from my favorite week of the year. Kentucky Derby week is approaching fast and it's time to talk a little bit about some horse racing. So we'll get into that here in just a bit. Also Rory McElroy gets the monkey off

his back, wins his first Masters despite choking like three times in the final round yesterday including on 18 where he had about a four foot putt to win the Masters and he missed it sends it to a playoff

but he does end up beating Justin Rose to win not only his first Masters, but he completes the career Grand Slam. Only, I think six guys have ever done that. Rory has been kind of known for a bit of choking.

It would have been bad if he wouldn't have won that because it was a choke job. But Rory gets it done. Congrats to him. Even though it was weird, I was cheering for him to win. And then when he missed the putt on 18 and they went to a playoff, I completely flipped and was cheering for the other. I don't know why that happened. I'm not a Rory hater.

Good for him for pulling it back together. That'd been hard to pull it, like with his history, you're telling me, missing a four foot putt to win the Masters. Dude, I could see myself like falling apart there. I mean, of course I would try, I would dig deep to not let it happen, but wow. So while we're on it, we'll just talk about it for a minute. So I actually had Charlie, he was watching the last probably three or four holes. Casey started watching, we were all into it.

Charlie was cheering for Rory to choke with two holes to go. I sound like Rex. He wanted Rory to choke and I'm sitting there going, why do want him to choke? I don't know. I just want to see a playoff. You want to see him cry? And I was sitting there telling my wife, Rory looks so composed. he does not look nervous at all.

I jinxed him. was too composed. Sometimes you can be too his wife must have gave him a Xanax. four foot punt, Anthony. He looked like a gimme on TV. mean, was that it? if he hit it, it would have been over. It was over. He was up one stroke. Okay. And he had a to win it. And he missed it and then had to go to a playoff. Dude, I probably would have shit myself.

I'm sure he was shitting himself because when I flipped because I thought he looked super nervous after that. And then they get, it takes him like a few minutes to get like, guess to pick the hole they're going to go to. They put him right back on 18. So it's like, don't know. I would imagine it's random. I'm not sure.

but then put him right back on 18 after Rory had just choked. But he did a good job at how to get that close shot. Yeah, he did. when they went to the playoff, both of them had perfect drives. Justin Rose goes first on the second shot, puts it at like eight feet, 10 feet or something. The second shot's the biggest shot. It is. is. Yeah. Just watching golf, I don't even know a lot about golf.

But watching, can tell the second shot matters. So Justin Rose put it in there. I don't know exactly how far it was. 10 feet maybe, 12 feet. for it? Yeah. mean, was, dude, it was a great shot. Rory comes up next, and hits it like above his ball and it backspun and rolled right past his ball and landed two feet from the

he makes the two footer to win the Masters. he missed the ten footer right? The guy missed the ten footer? Yes the footer. Okay so did Roy, he hit the two footer first or the other guy that shoot first? No the other guy shot first.

The other guy was out. He was he was further away. So if he made his and Rory made the two footer, they were going to another hole. You still think Rory was nervous on the two footer? Absolutely. He was shaking. He was shaking. There was a lot of emotion, man. He of broke down. was shaking bad. know it's a two foot putt, but you still got to hold your putter steady. When I tell you he missed a four footer.

on TV Anthony it looked like a two-foot it looked like a total give me for especially a pro golfer man I could not believe he missed the first one

But he come back strong the second shot on that playoff hole was beautiful. And Rory actually, why is it so hard to say his name? you have problems saying Rory? I just say Rory and I say it real fast so they don't have to worry about the hard. People can't understand me anyway. You're the one that usually butchers the name. I cannot say Rory. Well, know my big thing with it,

As long as I get the name close, I'm good. But a lot of times I just, if it looks right, kind of sounds right, I'm good. Well, he did have one of the, I don't know if it was one of the best shots I've ever seen, but he had a beautiful shot. I don't know what all the.

was on 12 or something. I'll show it to you. He hooked this thing so damn far around these trees. It was beautiful. Put it right on the pin too. mean.

couple feet away talking about you talking about the best shot ever I didn't see him make the cut so I'm assuming because I look for him happy didn't make the cut but did you see his shot at the open when the car hit the telephone thing and it went over and he had to do the shot that might have been the greatest shot ever up there in the greatest shots ever might have been the greatest shot ever happy did not make the cut

I bet his putting game must not have been on. He's always reliable driver just his short So right after Rory makes that great shot on like 12 or something, next hole he puts it right in the water. There was like three spots went throughout the final round where he hit terrible, terrible shots, but he does get it drama there at the end. I had fun with it. I thought it was a great Masters.

Master Sunday is fun, dude. I am not a huge golf guy. I do watch it here and there on Sundays, but Masters Sunday is awesome. We came back from baseball and I sat my ass on the couch and watched a couple hours of it there to finish. good stuff there. like masters cause I always feel like it's beginning of

Speaking of that the Blitz boys This is our first episode We've done when we coming off of a tournament. We just played our first tournament 12u I'm gonna give a shout out to the Louisville Blitz we'll see if any of them listen cat cat that's cat Louisville Blitz first time

of the year, looked good. What's Cory called? Big stick bramlet? Yeah. Big stick bramlet got him his first home run. His first career home run with the Blitz. Happy for Blasted one to dead center.

So shout out to Big Stick Bram and the Louisville Blitz. Charlie, you're glazing the Blitz, dude. Quit glazing the Blitz so much. You got to know all this terminology you learned from these kids. So cat, glazing. They taught us glazing. You know what we taught them?

Get off his nuts. Glazing means you're bragging on somebody. So don't glaze those donuts. We used to say get off your Yeah, that's what we told them. said back in our day that was get off his nuts. So they did like that. They did like Usually they don't like nothing we say. So they did like that. So we heard that the rest of the day. Charlie right after the damn meeting we had, he walks over.

Get off my nuts!

All right, Anthony, where do you want to go with this man? Man, you know, we've got a few spots. Well, look, we're going to talk horse racing for a little bit, but, and we got, we want to talk Nico. Yeah, we can start Nico. We can start our little Kentucky basketball either way. Let's talk Nico. That's the big news college football. So been under a rock and you ain't been listening, we had the

Publicly, I'm sure it ain't the first one but the first publicly hit the road from a high-profile player. So supposedly got Niko from out West a Year or two ago. They paid him like two or three million dollars, which was in her kind of unheard of at the time So I think he was gonna make like another two or three million this year and Maybe even make a little more he had a good year last year, but it went like a phenomenal

good year you seen Grohl's he was a high prospect coming out of high school sir you say okay but he went like a man this guy's gonna be the Heisman this year yeah maybe he could but he was right there he was good but he didn't show that much promise quite yet he's got the tools on well this year instead of his two to three he wanted four million in cash

and a $4.3 million Bugatti Chero. I didn't even know they made $4.3 million cars. really, I mean, I thought like most you could get a car for like a million and half, like a Bugatti or Lamborghini. didn't.

What is a college student gonna do with the There's no way he could get insurance, maybe get liability, but you could not get full, you're gonna give a 20 year old kid full coverage insurance on a $4 million car? That's an absolute ludicrous ask by that kid. It is. That is absolutely ridiculous. Well, you know, and they say, he tried to hold him to fire saying, well, he wasn't gonna play.

When he wows, Tennessee finally said, and look, I don't think Tennessee did nothing special. Tennessee, I think would have paid him if they thought the number was right. But I think they thought it's too high of a number for what he is. He wanted to get paid top quarterback money, actually a little bit more than top quarterback money. He's not a top quarterback. He's that next level, but he's not in Tennessee. He

going and it was right before spring practice so he was gonna hold out he didn't show up yeah he didn't show up so a little gas now did hear when all this started was out shopping self

before their playoff game. That's what they say to And he didn't show up to a practice that week too. There was practice that he did not show up to the week leading up to their playoff game against Ohio State. Look, I don't like it. hope nobody signs with Niko. Not because of Niko, but because there's gotta be something done. I'm not saying that's

It's wrong to shop in an environment that's there, he's got an agent, the agent's the one doing it.

Now I will say they said he was lazy cause you with the NAIO deals you gotta do like signings and stuff. They said he was always a no show. That's bullshit. So you're making that kind of money. Show up, show up to work. That's your job now. made a deal with somebody. should be great. So college player. If you're a 10 year, 15 year vet in the NBA, you get tired of signing autographs that that far into your career, you're a college kid. should be grateful that anybody wants your autograph that kids look up to you like Charlie. So

I like Nico. think Nico has a lot of talent. But I'll say this he's not a for sure NFL player I think he's kind of on that he might not make money in the NFL. He should be so grateful. He's making this kind of money

It might, but he's probably looking at, gonna try to retire out of college. He's trying to retire out of college. he knows he's not gonna be an NFL quarterback. I don't have no problem with him shopping himself, but show up to your stuff and be classy about the way you're shopping yourself. don't wait the spring practice and hold out. Hey, here's my deal, guys. If you don't like it, let's do this early so it don't get ugly.

don't gotta be that, you know, I don't like the idea of shopping yourself, but today's world. You're going to have agents. the teams. We've talked about it. The teams are going to try to best deal possible when these players. And when you think it's too much, you've got to walk away. you are a GM now as a coach or whoever puts these teams, you are a GM. got X amount of dollars. You got to spend them wisely. I don't blame the kids for going after the money. I never have.

I hate it, but I never blame them. get it. I would tell my son to go after them. Y'all know me and Charlie's argue about that enough, but the NCAA has to do something. Guys, it's getting ready just to crumble, right? If they don't do something. They're going to do something. I think you're right. has to be something done. But can they?

Yeah, think they're absolutely going to push this. This is going to go through Congress. They're going to try to figure something out. They're going to do something. But legally, they got to have a good argument because now we're saying that these kids can make you can't just say somebody can't make money just because you want to say it. You can put regulations on can, but you got to have good reason because somebody's going to fight that in court. There needs to be a two year contract. That's the first Well, we I sent you that.

Screenshot. I thought Salisbury. He just talked about it. They're going to have that. They need They need two-year contracts, buyouts. Because right now they're getting NFL money and all this, but

They can just hear today, gone tomorrow. there's no obligation. They said he wouldn't sign up for that. That's part of your NIL. Well, you're getting some money. Took him back for better, but they're hoping these teams to the fire.

because they know teams don't have a quarterback. they're using that as leverage. I guarantee you they're using that. That's why I waited to spring to do dude. And like, and I can get the agent wanting to do that. It's probably smarter on his agent's half, but they gotta do something to stop all this because I'm telling you we're going down the wrong hole with it. Well, a couple things. One, it seems like until something happens with.

Congress or some kind of process to put some regulations on this it seems like the coaches At least some of them Have some kind of little packed. Well, that was then ain't the only one it's the one we heard I know but if Dan Lanning wanted him Would you have heard that like I? Hold another argument, but I what what I'm saying is for landing to tell

Hypal about that. What I'm hoping is a lot of these major program coaches have maybe come to a agreement that, you know, if we see dirty stuff and you're exactly right. If he wanted him, he'd have just swooped in and got it. But maybe they do have some kind of little pact say, Hey, you know, we see fish. And maybe they're just buddies. don't know. It's Hypal and Laning buddies. don't know. mean, Laning's from Georgia and uh,

So maybe they're just buddies, but I would love for it to be this thing where the coaches are going to come together. Fight power. Because I don't blame, just like I don't blame the players for. I don't blame the coaches either. I don't blame the coaches for doing exactly. And you're going to see more of this. And I also don't blame the donors when they start saying, I'm tired of giving $2 million to some kid to come to my school and suck. No

Yeah, I mean, hate to So here's another idea that I heard. This was not my idea, so I'm not going to say it was, but I love this

and maybe this is, I think this is happening in football, but this is probably happening more in basketball. When a major five school takes a player from a smaller school, what if they had to pay that school?

a fee to take to basically take their kids. don't think you could do it legally. I mean, I like it. like the idea of it. Soccer does that. Okay. Soccer's got a system. there's no contracts. There's no contracts. So I mean, like he's on the open market. I like it. I like the idea. something and write. I like it. I like it. I'm just saying it would, that would at least give money to the smaller schools and at least help them build off of losing their, at least where they can.

benefit something from this system because smaller schools don't have a chance no more. What if they got a small fee? don't know just whatever I'm not even gonna throw a number out for the fee but what if they just there was a small fee? If Alabama took a player from let's say I don't know Morehead State or Western Kentucky they got to pay them.

who's losing the worst. I love that idea. I hate it for the small schools. I hate it for the big schools that don't have a big budget. I really do. I don't care if it's Kentucky. I don't care. because you know as a small school you don't you've never got the big players. You've always had to get the guys left over but you do your due diligence. You do your evaluations and you find those diamonds in the rough.

There's been coaches for years that's been really good at that. They don't even try to recruit the five-star kid or the four-star kid because they know they're not getting them. They go to these small schools and they count on evaluating talent. But now when you do it, guess what happens? You evaluate them, you do your job, you get the Wally Zerbiak, you get whoever it is. Now they just leave

Does the small school even have, I mean that was the only hope that it had to be great talent evaluators, great developers of talent.

I mean, it's not good for the sport. I'm telling you, it's not good. And I do think eventually if they keep on, they will, it will take a while, but they will run the fan away with this. You cannot keep on with this It's going to wear fans down. I guarantee you that was a good shot to Tennessee. Now they're going have a lot of pride and you know, they were supposed to have a pretty good team. So they're going have a lot of pride and get back up on their pony. But if this continuously happens, the people are going to get tired of it. Donors are going to get tired of it and the money.

wheel drive. The reason the money's there is because of the popularity of the sport. that's where I'll take up for college football. These players are making money because the sport or college football is so popular. If it became a semi-pro thing, it wouldn't be as popular. Because it's tied into the universities, because it's tied into who we are,

That's what makes it so fun. That's makes Saturday so fun. I know, but I'm just saying, that's why. So I feel like the players are saying they're adding all this value. They're the only ones bringing the fans in. I disagree. you can take all the big stars out.

Take all the, let them go to NFL. Whoever the next best players are, that's gonna be the stars of the league. I just would like watching football on Saturdays and watching good competitive football. I don't gotta have the very best players. If they're not there, there's the next best players. if there was an answer, they would already be working towards it. I think it's a tough situation. They are working towards it. They can't just be sitting on their

Well, I did hear Joe Clatt, he's a big podcaster, YouTuber guy, college football. He did like kind of call the NCAA out and say, are y'all not, are y'all just sitting back and not doing nothing? Well, NCAA is known to be very, but I do feel like, I do feel like, I know NCAA gets a lot of shit and probably rightfully so, but I do feel like they kind of warned us all about this. they kept telling us this wasn't going to work. This wasn't going to work.

And they got it almost feel like they telling everybody, you made your bed lie in it. They have no leverage right now because schools are threatening them. They need to get all this in control. know that. I think the product hasn't changed. I do disagree on that. I don't think it's going to ruin the sport. I hope it don't. But I do think it is absolutely out of hand and something has to be done. They have to.

put regulations on this until they do that, me, coaches got to keep doing what Hypal did and telling these guys to kick rocks because

For the main thing it's gonna do is Hypal pays him and then guess what the rest of his good players on his team are gonna do? They're gonna ask for more money too. His top receiver is gonna ask for more money. His top defensive lineman is every other quarterback across the country? Yeah, I'm just talking about on his team. Yeah, it's gonna change. And what happens if he don't produce? And he ain't no good, that could easily happen.

gonna be a of his own locker room. He's gonna be half guys going, huh? I can get a little raise. I'm gonna go try to get a raise too. You know, it's a sad part, Charlie. I hope and it's nothing against the kid. It really isn't because I mean, I

I don't like kind of how he's going about it, but he's got an agent that's, telling him what to do probably. And he's probably close to getting what he wanted. they probably thought it was too much. It's probably his dad. Yeah, it might be,

But I'll tell you this, going forward with it, I just don't know where it stops and where it ends.

because Charlie, this is the part about it that I don't like. I hope nobody signs him. Nothing against the kid, but I hope nobody signs him. Somebody's going they'll sign him. There's no doubt in my mind somebody's going to, but I hope they don't. And maybe I hope that they won't. You know, they're like kind of blackballing and I would hate that for the kid, but he's already made enough money. I don't feel sorry for him. somebody will step up and sign him.

because everybody wants to be good. I definitely think I hurts his value a little bit, but I'll be interested to see. I think there's some beef going on with their family in the, in the agent. headline. I hate it, but the market value.

Is that the market value for him? I just, I'd have to look into it more. You know, is Tennessee just pissed cause they think it's more it was somebody else pay it. I don't think they will, but if somebody else pays it, was he wrong for doing it? They're not giving it to him because he's not worth it. I agree. I but just say if somebody else gives it to him, then that was a smart move by the kid.

would argue that it's not because I think that's gonna hurt his NFL stock. But I don't think it's gonna cost him money in the long I don't think he's close to the NFL right now.

the, an NFL quarterback, or you gotta be the top of the to be a first round quarterback, some of the years there ain't even like maybe one first round quarterback. It's hard kids play. They can, I'm going to make the money while I'm in college. Hell with the NFL. What he thinks is that he's the top quarterback in the country. That's why he's asking for $4 million. He thinks he's a lot better than he is. didn't want to stay in that Tennessee system. Exactly.

I mean, Hypo's got a great system. You don't think that's a quarterback friend. It don't make no sense to me money hungry. I've heard this kid was money hungry from the very beginning. I think he was I think he went to Tennessee because they were the highest bidder. So I would even go back to Tennessee and say I hear you now Tennessee and I like you walk away from me, but I think I remember reading

They like did somebody dirty for him and went and if I learned this in business, I learned this in business. I learned this in business. If somebody comes to you for a cheap price, some customer, they're going to leave you because of a cheap price. If somebody comes to you because of money, don't get mad when they leave you because of money. This headline says Nico's agent backstabbed family triggering disastrous fallout with Tennessee.

That's from the sporting news. know, I heard somebody say, whenever you sell yourself at that point, the players, they're not yours. They're, they're rented, these kids are taken.

Bad information from people is what it is. Maybe, Because you're telling them, everybody's telling them go get as much money as you can. And it's not going to work out for every single player. It's just not. It might work for the top ones, but some of these guys that are middle of the road,

and they're trying to get more money and shit, I think it ended up costing them, dude. I just do. The top guys, yeah, go In basketball, I feel like it's a little different. a perfect case of In basketball, I feel like they know who's going to be first round. We had talked about it. Dude, when you come out of high school, you're a top 10 player. As long as you don't screw up at first year, they'll still drive job potential. The NFL's

I've seen so many high rated players coming out of high school not paying out. And so many lower ranked There's so many more though. Imagine how many more football players than there are lower Yeah, and I think it's harder to rate them because we've talked about it. There's not the AAU scene and stuff. So you're trying to rate kids that play in 7A against kids that play in 1 or 2A. It's a tough job.

news on the Nico stuff. It's all over the news if you haven't been watching. I hope nobody signs them too, I do too. Somebody It's not against the key, all they will. And he'll lie about it probably saying he made more than what he But I hope.

Nobody's outside. He may end up money last year. I don't feel bad. Somebody's gonna sign. that was funny. I hope he ends up at a and he could just hold out and go to NFL, but he's not at that NFL stage yet. He's not there yet. the biggest offer he gets is like 1.8 million from like a Western Kentucky or something and that's where he ends up playing and making less money than he than he was making at Tennessee. Kentucky might bang. How funny would that be? Maryland might bang. Maryland, Notre Dame.

Dan Lanning might have been doing it just to get a better deal. Dude, what if Lanning turns around and gets it? That would be That was a boss move. That would be... That's a boss move. He brings down his value, he rubs his name through the dirt. That would be drama right there. Hypo might fight his I'm gonna guess. Let me guess. Hypo would whoop Dan Lanning.

Ohio State's got some good young quarterbacks, but I think Nico was probably a little bit more proud. Like they got some high ranked guys, but they're happy with, it's not as big as names they've had Ohio State. Who's Notre Dame guy coming back this year? Your boy's gone, he? This Who's that? Notre Dame. What, the quarterback? Leonard? Yeah, he's gone. that. Pretty sure he is. Does Georgia? That's who buys him.

That's who buys him. But I don't know if Georgia can afford him because Georgia, I mean, they Carson Beck walk. Georgia has money, but they don't have like Notre Dame or Ohio State money. do they bang? Nobody's jumping on him right off the bat. Cause this, this news. Does he go to Georgia to Tennessee off? I'd help, but you know, Kirby is Dan Lanning, their buddies. So Kirby ain't going to take him.

He's got that one boy old gunner. He's got gunner. He's got gunner. He's got to get up here with DJ Lagway, man. Does Oklahoma take him?

no telling who takes him, but I don't think there's anybody jumping right at the bid at the price he's asking because I feel like it wouldn't have took long for him to decide if somebody wanted. If somebody wanted to say, well, I'll pay him $4 million, they'd have probably already snatched him up. Does the team take a PR hit?

I think they did probably their fans. I say I think it's gonna end up unless he just turns out to be a superstar I think it's gonna hurt his NFL stock in the long run if there is any NFL stock I'm not even saying there is he ain't there yet, but he could be eventually. He just got developed more He's just really had one year of true play

He's a dumbass man. This kid's a dumbass. He's either a dumbass or he's listening to people that probably in the long run trying to grab money out of his pockets. Let's be unless he ends up getting $6-7 million. You know that agent. You know what he wants. Percentage. Yeah. He wants as much as he can get. He's probably telling Niko, hey, they're hating on you. And then all his family members that are saying, yeah, all they're trying to do is get some money in the long run. The dad probably wanted to be

and he probably wouldn't let

I think it's a mess, but I love what Tennessee, I hate to everything about Tennessee, but I love this move from Hypal. I just think it's cause they couldn't afford him or that like it was too much for their budget. think they would have paid. I agree with that. I agree. Like for that amount of money. good enough, if he was going to be a Heisman candidate.

They'd have paid for eight million. I just think they think eight million. Yeah, four plus the four and a half million dollar card. They might not have a Bugatti. Dude's out of his fucking mind. What are you gonna do with the four million dollar car, John? You're not getting full coverage on that car, dude. With that 20 year old kid. No way. No way. Like, okay, you're a 20 year old kid. I'm gonna give you full coverage on that. No. No thank you. No way. Liability, buddy.

Alright, well let's jump from football over to a little bit of college basketball. Just a little bit of Kentucky news on the transfer side. Actually, a little bit of news on the, we had one ship out I think since our last show. Caden Lewis, we were talking about him. one I was excited about. Yeah, we were talking about him, we liked him. He's Caden Lewis, decommitted.

I was here in Michigan State. I heard Duke. I'm here in Villanova too. I heard Duke early on, but I think you heard Michigan State after I heard Duke. So that might have caught on. I heard Villanova today. So I'm not sure where he's leaning, but Akaden Lewis is going. We can sit here and debate on why. There's a couple theories out there. And I think they're all legit even the one you told me about that the boyfriend pick committed to us that, you know, upperclassmen. He's a junior. think that's, I think that's unbelievable. think if kid would have been a senior.

I don't think it would have been as bad, but with that kid being a junior, possibly being there most likely being there for two Maybe a Kaden Lewis thought he wasn't going to get as much playing time. His dad went to prison because of COVID fraud just here recently, 300 and something like that. And they say his dad he always was glazing Duke. But then he was a big reason a Kaden came to Kentucky. he was a fan of it.

but then he got the COVID fraud. He probably had some back deal work with Kentucky. My theory on it, think, and I think your theory is a good theory. I really do. Another theory is that, you know, I told you, I was excited because he jumped up so many spots. He went from like 60 something to top 20. That's a big jump in recruiting rankings over a couple of months. My thinking is maybe they signed him for X. And then when he jumped 40 something spots, he thought his agent told him we're worth Y.

And Kentucky just decided it's not a good business move for us. we offered you $700,000 and now you're wanting $1.5?

it's nothing to get you, Kayden. We think you're a good player. It's just not a good business move. And I think the schools have the right to do that. I mean, that's what they gotta do, really, Charlie. They gotta make good business decisions. You're a GM now. Or is that player worth that much money for you? we've talked about some coaches get a little discount because their system or whatever, but I still believe it comes down to the dollars

Even for the coaches, it comes down to dollars. They got a payroll of X amount and they got to build their team to the best of their ability within that payroll. So maybe, you when he jumped up the rankings like that, the price of poker went up and Mark Pope said, look, I like you, Katie. I think you're going to be a nice player. didn't seem like no bad breakup. It seems like, they both had good words to say. Just it might be business or it might be like you say that might be the dad or it might be the play in town thing or maybe it's a combination at all.

but that's pretty wild, starting to learn new things with the NIO and This is all I would tell people I Keep up with college sports a lot. I've read a lot about the NFL and I thought about it a lot Just you got to get used to it guys. You can't get your feelings hurt I wouldn't kill they change things like players are gonna leave they're gonna come, there's money involved

just gotta trust your coach that he's gonna put you together the best team They let one walk, you just gotta thank yourself. They thought that was too much for that player. So.

It is what it is. I don't like it, but that's where we are right now. And so things get changed. Just don't get your feelings hurt. When one leaves, they probably got a plan for another one if it's a good coach. So I trust, I trust coach Po.

So you know it is what it is. It's an ugly time but you know it's just nothing to get your feelings hurt about. Did you say we picked up another transfer Charlie? We're in the top two for what's his name Wilkerson? No we haven't got him yet. I think we're in final two for him. Yeah that kid's from I think Jacksonville State. pretty good shooter there's

saying he's one of the top guards I guess available and yeah he was in Lexington this week right after being in Bloomington Indiana they take him to Keeneland if you don't know about Keeneland Keeneland is probably if not the but it is one of the most beautiful

horse tracks in the country do you agree with that yeah i think there's a couple other but yeah i think it's just the scenery around it it's it's horse country a lot of rolling hills a lot of greenery it's very classic it's traditional it's just got a different vibe to it it's kind of it's kind of nice to go there get dressed up and experience that uh thousands of kentucky fans in there a lot of pretty women a lot of pretty women and

Almost everybody is pretty much Kentucky fans. So they, he was there with Mark Pope walking around, heard he got a lot of attention. Sure. Put him in the winner's circle.

Bloomington or Lexington?

I think it comes down to money, but we've argued about that. We are about, but I do think that if Mark did that, he looks like the kind of guy Mark wants to spend money on. He saved some money with the KVN Lewis. I'm sure this guy's a little bit more expensive, a little bit more proven, but I think that he wouldn't have took him to, you know, he's pulling it all out the stones. He's pulling out the checkbook. He's pulling out the Keeneland. he's doing it all. And so he, I think it was, he had three or four schools listed

he cut it down to Indiana and Kentucky so and he says he's making a decision this week so we'll hear about that soon does it is it does it become behind the closed doors a bidding war at that point I hope that don't go on but it probably does

I don't know how it plays out. don't know if they just give them an offer and then they are they going back and saying, Hey, he just offered me this. But if you are, if you're an agent, why wouldn't you? Oh, that's your job, right? Is that how the NFL does it? I don't know.

just we're not going get back in no no way no way we've had that over 100 % think the money has a lot to do with it but you know if the money's close I think Kentucky or Indiana Kentucky yeah I agree with that I agree with that I agree with that but we also picked up

a big Croatian last week. My best friend in college was a Croatian. Well, let's try to say his name here. I'll let you first since you're pretty good at names. No, come on. no, No, come on. Let's I called my buddy Slavko. He'll take you to the Let's say it. Say it. Come on. Andrej Jelavica. I don't know.

Andrea,

Yeah. AJ Yella, Yelly, Yelly. I don't know what we're going to call him, but they say he's one of the top international guys. That's cool. Apparently he is like 20 or 21 year old freshman. Yeah. He actually played, Kentucky played against this kid like three years ago in the Bahamas.

And they say he's really good. he's going to play the four.

Garrison come back to we had a little scare with Brandon Garrison. Did we talk about that last week? Where were we out last week with Brandon? Yes, we thought maybe he was just coming out his name out there We probably resigning they worked out a deal. He might have tested the market the market wasn't so hot Are we well, we paid the ticket nothing was ever said but it was stuff He did and everybody's had to sign these on stuff off of his social media stuff And I heard some people saying it made sense when I read

that's probably just part of his negotiate yeah back though I like it I like it because I think the kids going I've talked about it on here I think you seal it is as high if not higher than anybody's on the team

and I'm glad we got him back. You was a big get when we got him last year. I don't know if he's going to be big man. He's a big gift. take him a little time. I see a lot of potential Soft hands. You need to work on the hands. Everything else is strong. Our rosters looking good. agree. So from what I'm seeing right now, we are third in the transfer.

Yeah, they had this ranking out too. they had the high school players Then they got the transfer portal ranking. They got a combo too. do. Yes, they do We were we were in the top five in that already, but I seen one that was I've seen a few that aren't legit because one was NIL spending and little wouldn't he make the top ten and another school didn't Louis has been up there like forest been in Louis spent money and another guy pointed that out

you know how it is on internet not everything you see on there you can believe so but there is a one with two on it will try to keep an eye on. this list I'm looking at was is 24-7 sports it has Michigan number one Louisville two Kentucky three but it says that we have four commits so how many transfers we got?

We got the Croatian guy. We got the love kid. Diabate. I think we do got one more. So this is, this is just transfers. So it's got Michigan one Louisville to Kentucky three,

they got some kind of point system. It says Michigan 36.61 points, Louisville's at 35.5 and we're at 35.09 I'm anxious to forward, because I could see it both ways.

What's gonna be more valuable? Is it gonna be the high school players or is it gonna be the transfer? I think the transfers have been. Now, the high school players might have come back with Duke's class, COVID kids are gone. You're not getting into the fifth, sixth year players no more. you're trying to build your team and spend your money?

Are you better off with the transfers? Are you better off with the star freshman? maybe it's a combination of both. think it depends on how many stars there are as freshmen. know what I'm saying? There were so many more players in college basketball because you had literally an extra year or two worth of players in the pool. There was a lot of talent out there. Now with there's going to become only four true years of you had about six years of players. So COVID year is never going to

Let me tell you a true story before we move forward real quick I was in college business school, you know Guy good friend of mine in college. His name was Slavko Probably you those best tennis player they'd had he broke some work a lot of records for him He was from Croatia. It was like six foot Cool as hell tennis player.

He wasn't going to go to college. Jacksonville State transferred to UofL. He like it there. And he had a lot of big offers, but he waited too late. So he had to go to Jacksonville State because he was just going to go pro.

he comes to Louisville, wins all kinds of stuff in the Big East. They're deeply outside business school, right before class, smoking a cigarette. I'm like, Slav, claims you like a high level athlete, dude. He said, man, this makes me play better. I think Jokic smokes cigarettes and shit. Does he really? I don't know that. I don't know that.

Looks like he does. I love Croatian people. They're bossy people they used to smoke didn't he? I did. it's like they seem like they're cool as make me play better. I mean, I think they had a game that night. He was out there smoking a cigarette. this don't hurt me. I'm good. He had a big server. He was like six foot eight.

guy. Good guy. So yeah, I like Kentucky's roster. Hopefully we land this Wilkerson kid and I think we'll be about done. So we'll keep track of that as we move Anthony MBA did

See, I'm locked into the NBA. Pretty much you could call me an insider, Charlie. That's how much I'm locked in. You think I'm bad on college basketball? I literally watch NBA every night and then I wake up. Nice. Well, then you can guide us through. Then I wake up. Listen, I...

I don't like the brand of basketball is right now NBA struggle with numbers. Everybody hears that but- Playoffs will be good though. They will. I agree. Even though they got these little playing games which I think are bogus. Shea gots MVP locked up.

Show you had a big I did not think he's good for him because he, you know, look, yo, was was. Yeah, but he had a hell of a year last year too. And he could have, could have got it. could have got think joker probably should have got it, but man, he could have had almost any other year. They both had monster years.

I feel like they give it that it was given it to Jokic because they were winning championships. he ever he ever triple double this year? He's good. Did he ever triple double this year? I'm not sure. think y'all I think they asked him about it and he said.

He don't even care I know I won the championship. They said, you're stay around and stuff. I gotta get back to my.

He does not care broke some records this year with some huge games like the one game I think he had like 60 something points and a triple double don't know I could be off on that but he has broke a couple records this year and when they act like the reporters ask him about he's like oh yeah I didn't even know that country that country's always been good as Porto they got tall athletes

Give everybody a little geography history lesson a little bit when we were kids. It was one country It was Yugoslavia and they had a civil war and they broke it up and they broke it up into Bosnia Serbia and Croatia got the good end of the deal so the Yugoslavia had a coastline the Mediterranean that's their beautiful ocean beach feel like Croatia got like 90 % of

but if you remember during the dream team, I forget what it was. Maybe it was the dream team too, but it was like Pasia and somebody else. One of them was from Serbia, just got done fighting the civil war and the coaches wanted them to kind of be like a team and like, man, can we let this go?

And the guys wouldn't, they wouldn't let it go. They said, you don't understand coach. These people kill my family. coach, I love you, but you don't understand what a civil war is. I will never forgive that guy. And so, you know, I remember that and I, know, as adult now we've never seen that like that. So it's easy to say, just forgive somebody. But when you just got done fighting a civil war, you're not ready to forgive at that point. History with Anthony. That's right. New segment.

History with Anthony. I don't know how they got 90 % of the coastline though, Croatia, but they big tennis player He's a his name real good one probably one of the best right? All right. He was for a while.

mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Jokovic. Yeah, Jokovic. Yeah, he's good. He was a but they've had to do out the NBA. I feel like they probably have been biggest present in the NBA. I know Germany's had a lot, but the Croatians go back and start. mean, that whole country go back to like Volodya and Paja and all those guys. There's a guy coming up right now. He was drafted number 13, but they thought he was going to be the maybe the number one.

picked this year but he had a torn ACL during the draft and his name's like Djokovic or something but he was drafted ain't played yet because he had a torn ACL but so next year be his first year but they were talking about him being the number one pick before he tore his ACL. about Drazen Petrovic? I remember him. he was on track to be a superstar. Yeah he was. I mean he already was kind of a superstar but man that

I can watch some highlights of Petrovic. He was a killer. They're tall. They're tall Petrovic was like a swing guy. A swing goer. He was like a three. Genetic. He wasn't no big guy. was a... Petrovic is one of my had a lot of good ones. They had a little point guard. forget his name here recently. So they've had a lot.

So yeah, NBA, we got a couple of playing games tomorrow and Wednesday. I think there's two tomorrow, two on Wednesday. It looks like the Golden State Warriors are in the playing game and they're playing the Dallas Mavericks. The... know nobody's gonna beat OKC. got rid of Luca and they still...

I guess you could technically say they made the playoffs, even though I think this is bullshit but surprised to see Dallas there. They don't have to battle Golden State to get in. You know what I would love to see? Of course, how am I Anthony Davis? I would love to see Anthony Davis stay healthy for them. cause I don't think it's a horrible trade if he can stay healthy. Is it Luca? No, but dude, Anthony Davis has so much potential, just can't stay healthy.

He's good when he's healthy. He's really good. Lakers got the three seed. They're rolling with Luca. They guess Luca and LeBron, Luca and LeBron. That's, that's tough to handle. I said it wasn't going to make a difference. I do think it made a difference, but I still don't think they're winning.

season with tough to beat. Boston's pretty good, Cleveland's good. I hope OKC wins it. I'll be cheering for them but look we got Houston in the two spot little little Reid Shepherd action right there we got the Nuggets at number four Jamal Murray still doing his thing then you got the Clippers I think I think they're the old men of the league they got Kawhi and

they got Paul George? he? I don't even think he can stay healthy. So on Fandol, the odds to win the NBA championship has the Thunder plus a dollar 80, Boston plus a dollar 90, jumps all the way down to Cleveland plus $5 and the Lakers are plus $16. But I'd take the Lakers right there, even though I don't think they're going to win anything. I it's a decent bet. Yeah, I get that. Hell yeah. Cleveland might be a decent bet at five to one.

I know it sounds crazy but no Cleveland's been good all year. OKC's the better plus a dollar eighty. Maybe Boston is. Everybody talks about how great Boston is. Cleveland only had 18 losses. You talk about Oklahoma City only had 14 but Cleveland only had 18. OKC and Boston they're plus a dollar seventy that matchup.

That's pretty for that specific matchup. Then it jumps up to plus $4 for Cleveland, Oklahoma and then Boston and LA plus 11. Boston and Golden State plus 15. So play in games. Golden State, Dallas. Memphis and Sacramento in the West and Orlando is playing the heat. Got some guys on the heat too.

think Bam's still on there. Tyler Hero. They'll be playing Orlando and then the Hawks and the Bulls So the winner of the the East will end up playing the Celtics and the Cavs and the winner in the West will end up Oklahoma City and Houston. Man I wish I wish the Lakers would have been the two seed so could have possibly been a Dallas

I don't know how that works. Maybe Dallas would be locked into the eight because of the record, but it would be cool to see Dallas in the late game playoffs, man. I remember as a kid watching the NBA, of you always remember Michael Jordan. That was my heir. You know, they really marketed him good and rightfully so. He was great. to be like Mike's, space jam, that and bigger in life. And he was bigger in life.

He was a killer. He was good. They marketing being and he was a. he's good. But one of the things I remember about the NBA growing up is when they would come down the court, they'd have that little sound on the thing.

I'm glad they do. I'm glad they do. They play that and everything. think they play that. That's a baseball during the game. Do they do that during the game like that? You see, that's cool. I like it. I like it. I always liked the music at the beginning when you when we were kids and then you had more of Albert calling the games. He was the best. Oh, Marv. What do you mean? He was the voice of the NBA. Yeah, was in trouble there for a while, but he made a comeback. I don't know.

he's still doing it or not he might still be calling the NBA I like it Marv Albert was the he was the voice of the NBA when the 90s it was fun to watch back then it was awesome I mean you had of course you had Jordan but I was a Mast Burner fan so I kind of like the heat and

heat. I know I've talked about this, but the heat and the Knicks played for like three straight years in the playoffs. I remember that. That was some of the best morning and you in Georgia. Yeah. You had Oakley and who else did they have? I know we've talked about this. have Ewing Oakley and had another Jackson. Now they had another guy that wanted to fight all the time. was Oakley and Oakley and Coleman. No, damn it. I'm drawing.

Yeah, they fought every year. So I always think of those matchups, the Knicks and the Heat. man, NBA. Yeah, Chicago battled a bunch of different teams. Utah, that was 97, 98. They did it for like three years. Two, yeah, 97 and 98, I believe. Then, yeah, know, the Rockets.

they wanted when Jordan left they got to when Jordan was out of the game. So I'd be the king second best there Barclay Barclay and their man the NBA in the 90s was it was in the head stars I think that's what they I really think that maybe not with the older players because I do think there's some established stars I don't know if it's because the NIL or what's going on but I don't feel like the NBA with their younger players has the younger players has the star

You know, I'm collecting cards now and it's like a lot of these young names, they're not even a lot of them are household names. So I don't know if they're, they're, losing that star power. They, because that, you know, they're kind of setting out or just doing this. Do they not build up a name for themselves? Kind of a brand for themselves? I don't know. I'm sure they're still really good, but you know, league has went downhill too much. No, not enough Duncan I'm telling you, I've seen it during college basketball.

It's funner to watch that physical Duncan brand of basketball. It just is It's the defense of, just physical take it to the rim. Too much shooting makes the game boring. I've heard all the Jordan and LeBron debates. I know we've all heard them, but I heard something that I thought was very telling that I never really thought about.

When Michael Jordan was in the NBA, the NBA was on a big time decline. Ever since LeBron has been in the league for 20 something years, the league has steadily declined. is that, mean, that's kind of crazy. It is, but I'm not saying it's all LeBron's fault, but.

I'm going to take it for our test. I'm not an artist guy. Let me say that matter of fact, I don't like artists, but I heard him say something that I think is true. The NBA changed the rules You know, I remember when they gave us trying to take the game globally. They've really made a big push with that. Those players weren't at where they weren't as athletic enough to play in that era of basketball. You had to be really strong and really athletic.

They changed the rules to let the European player be able to play. Artest said it. I kind of agree with who the best players in the league are now. Yeah.

They're all foreigners. Even Shea, he's from Canada. It for me. Luca. But it's just a soft brand of basketball anymore. It's not about being physical. I think they let them play zone now. They don't. Okay. They They let them, but they don't play it. Yeah. They just pussy way of playing basketball. That's because you can't play defense, dude. Man up.

You're a pro you should have to man don't think they actually do it. Yeah. So who you got? Okay, see. Playoffs hadn't started. Okay, see Boston that will be a tough matchup. I'm gonna go with my boy Shea or the new boy Tatum.

I hate to take the same exact matchup. I don't see Cleveland doing it man. Boston's got the experience. even though I've...

always liked the Celtics. I liked them kind of when I was a kid. I was never a never had a favorite team. I was just more of a players guy, but I did. I've always liked the Celtics. Cheered for them big time when KG and Ray Allen, Paul Pierce won that that year. I was huge Celtics fan. For some reason this team, this Celtics team, I don't dislike them, but it just doesn't excite me.

I've never been a Knicks fan, but I'm probably gonna be cheering for the Knicks in the playoffs. I don't even know why, I I think it's something, little something different, but I told Anthony, I think the Knicks are like the Cowboys of the NBA. They won it so bad, they used to be good, they used to be relevant, and they just cannot get it done. But I'm looking right here, they're the three seed. 10 games back in the two seed though.

Big gap between one and two and the rest of them. Are you talking about the Knicks? Is Patrick Keene the greatest college basketball player of all time? Maybe probably not, but he's one of them. No, but he was good, dude. He was really good in college But greatest college basketball player. might be Ewing, dude. It might be. It's probably Llew Alcindor, Kareem Abul-Jabbar, dude. probably the number one. I agree. I agree. It's before my time, but he did win a lot.

As much as I hate to say it, it's probably Christian Leitner. I have to see the argument. Your boy, Tyler Hansborough, stats-wise. He was good, but he wasn't as good as those boys. And he was good. he was... Stats-wise, boy, he put up huge Yeah, but he wasn't as unstoppable as those No, he wasn't. And he was a nice player, There's been a lot of them, but...

hate to say it, but we're just talking college basketball player. I'm going to go. I'm going to ain't. I'd have to think about it little. Me too. would Christian Leighton or come, you know, he's the, he's the one that really comes to mind. Yeah. I'm I mean, I think it's a good argument. I might be overstate. But I just remember being really

He came out, was the number one pick and Big Diane had lived up to his billing in New York. So I'm gonna go Oklahoma City and I'm gonna change it up in the East. I don't wanna take the same matchup as you. I do, if I had to bet on it, I probably would bet on Boston, cuz I don't have much faith in the Knicks.

or really anybody below those top two. I would make a bet. I'll be honest. I'd make a backup bet with Cleveland. Okay. See with Cleveland winning. I do think Cleveland's pretty good. I just don't want, I just, I'm not picking up Cleveland. Give me the Knicks, They got Brunson. got Brunson. They got,

They got Carl Anthony Towns. That's right. They got Ritter Randall. like that worked. They traded Randall and got Carl Anthony Towns. Carl Anthony Towns is good. Like him or not, he was good. But Randall was good too. What about the Timberwolves? They were in the finals last year. They're the sixth seed this year in the West. Looks like Carl Anthony Towns is laughing all the way to the bank. I mean, proof's in the pudding.

Yeah, I'm going to just take a shot in the dark and go.

City and the Knicks. I know that's stupid that's so stupid because it's not gonna happen it's definitely not gonna Charlie I don't hate that. Actually if I had to go out on another limb I'd probably say my second one just try to be different I'd probably say the Celtics and the Lakers. like it. That's what the NBA needs. The Celtics and the Lakers I mean could you imagine LeBron and Luca?

is I can't stand LeBron. do respect LeBron and I do respect the fact that we're watching something you know

players of all time but I just I can't stand the flop and there's some things I like about what he does I'm with you and there's some things I like about he's like 40 years old and still playing at a super high level he's not just playing and getting like 14 a game he still fucking dominates first time I watched it was on that ESPN probably a lot of his older people watched it first time we all seen and he just had a group of high school kids with him just local high school

and they played Oak Hill and they had like seven division one recruits, a lot of big names going to big schools. I said there was no way. You don't have a chance, man. It's playing a whole team of division one recruits, just him by himself with the local high school, he beat them. Man, I told everybody right then he was gonna be the best player that ever lived. I don't think he made it.

I put him Damn fucking close though. He did. Wherever you want to him on the list. I put put him 30. Fucking if you're 30. Some people put him one. The younger people do. And listen, my only thing is you got to be able to create your own shot late in the game and you got to want the ball and he's definitely physical gifted player but

You know being able to create your shot late with a good jump shot. That's where I put Jordan and Kobe ahead of them. They had that killer instinct. for a good part of LeBron's career. He didn't want the ball late. but I'm not taking that away from him. He's great. But the one thing I will get the guy credit for that, some people knock me for people always say, Brownie don't blow.

same thing for my kid. I'd my leverage to get my kid a spot. I don't care nothing about that. Would you do that for your boy? Oh, Charlie. Most people would. Yeah. But the people act like that. But people act like they, you know, it's just a horrible thing because they're not in that position. I tried. They had you go get your boy a job somewhere. Yeah. If you could, who gives a shit about the little criticism? Who cares? I your kid, Yeah, but he needs to stop whining so much and support the leg when that

How about build up your league? Yeah, that's paying you all that money. Jordan made the NBA into what it is. guys the 1950s 50s built it up so they could make that money. then the guys then built it up. So the reason they're making the money they are today, the reason they got the union, the reason they got all that is because of the guys before you.

So set it up for the guys after you when you see your league struggling numbers wise and you're resting Dude LeBron came in in 2002. was still in the league. I think playing for the for the Wizards I'm pretty sure he was the league was great at that point and he is I'm not saying single-handedly but

The league has went to shit in over the 20 something years that he's been in it. It's all the shooting. It's all the Well, it's also about your main star not doing whatever it is that he can do in his power. And I'm not saying he's a magic maker, but come You did something over the years to prevent.

what has happened with the NBA. NBA is down so much for you. Viewership is down, the product sucks. Let's not beat around the bush. The NBA, especially the regular season, is garbage. I'm telling you, there's no physical elements of the game no more. It's very little. That's what we're missing. I've got friends that over the last 15, 20 years, 30 years have big time NBA fans and not so much college basketball fans.

Those same people are telling me that the NBA, their product sucks.

I just think it's too much shooting. People don't wanna see threes all day. They wanna see some dunks. They wanna see you attack the rim. Challenge me at the rim. I don't wanna see all this pussy flopping shit. dude, they're good at flopping. It ain't just they flop, they're good at They practice it, If you get caught flopping, once it's a technical, twice you're out of the game. Why not? Like, cause that's essentially trying to cheat.

Why not? If you want to fix it, fix it. I can't stand the flop and that's why that's the main reason. They practice it. They're good at it. I don't like about LeBron. right. That's enough NBA. made our picks. I got two different picks for the, for the finals and Anthony's going chalk. So we'll see what happens with that.

Anthony let's do this Derby stuff man. so let's get into the Derby action. We are done with the Derby preps. I think pretty close to knowing the 20 right. yeah so let's well basically no I'm go over the favorites. I'll make a just a quick rundown of some horses.

who's the favorite right now? Journalism. Journalism is a favorite. He's undefeated right? Three for three? he three for three? I'm not sure I He's out of Curlin. Curlin was a champion always had these great females

He's had a lot of great babies, but they've always been these female superstars. He's not produced a lot of great males as a stud, and he's been a great stud. But this year, he's got two in the Derby. One of them's the Derby favorite, journalism. The king of California right now. He's won everything out in California. Journalism is three to one.

not undefeated. He lost his first race came in third and his very first race. First race out four for four since then two grade twos in the grade one. he dominated grade one is the Grade two is the next step grade three, but grade one, two and three are all huge races. So he's already got three graded wins

He's the king of college. For people that don't know, there's different circuits around the country.

the best way I can tell somebody that don't know a lot about horse races He's the champion of California. there might be another horse or two from California come in But he's the one that's won their big prep races out there. He's the champion of California He's priced up bread in Kentucky. and Brought and took out the California because almost all of our good horses are bred in Kentucky So not all of them, but I'd say 97 % so He's your top choice and then you get into the next group

real quick before you jump off of that. don't think this is a great class and I hope I'm wrong, but I feel like this is a down year for three year olds, but I do think this horse...

He might be, if there's a stud out there, this might be it. If there's a star, I do think that journalism might be it. But man, I do not like favorites in the Derby, heard you. don't either. You know I was on Citizen Bull. He took a loss. So he is not the favorite anymore. But I think I'm kind of off Citizen Bull. But I just don't like favorites. I know you don't either. I don't. I don't like him in a regular race. I surely don't like him in a 20 horse race. My theory has always been this.

I feel very strongly about that. You got 20 horses in the race. They go around one time.

They get stuck out wide, they get boppled up, they get checked. That means they get hit and they kind of get off stride. So first thing, I love the Derby, my favorite race in the world. Second thing, there should not be 20 horses on the race track. should be 30. Yeah, 30 I guess. There should probably be no more than like 13 horses on a race. But on the Derby, they put 20 of them across there, son. And they go around one time and they're all trying to get inside position going into the first turn.

Sometimes it can get crowded and it's not like a NASCAR race where they go around a bunch So I'm looking for longer rides

but that's that's our favorite. I mean, he's a clear-cut favorite He's three to one in the next horses and there's another group of like eight to ten to one and fifteen to one There's like five or six of them. You got Sandman at eight to one. He's your Arkansas Derby winner He's a dead closer. I'm saying yeah dead closer if you like your horses to go from the last to the front

That's the only way he likes to run too. He's never liked closers, but we know we had a deep, deep closer last year that I fell in love with. Sierra Leone. I'm not a big fan of the deep closers in the Derby either. But I'd rather have a deep closer than a front runner that wants to get out on the lead early. If I had to choose between a deep closer and one of them that wants to push the lead right out of the gate, I'd rather have the closer, but I really don't want either one of

I need a no doubt. got runner up in the Florida Derby. I actually think he went off a shorter price there. He's eight to one. You got Rodriguez, a 10 to one. He was actually out in California with, he was out there with journalism and they shipped him to, kind of shipped him to New York. I don't know if it was to get away from journalism.

but he ended up going to the New York's Big Prep and won it. Now that means nothing. That means nothing. Don't cycle ass where he ran from. Some horses just run better and some horses, they're just like kids. You got early developers and you got late developers.

You got some horses that aren't even in the Derby Pitcher, they might end up being the best horse in the year. Just like with puberty, they all go through their growth spurts at different times. And you get some horses that are developed, some horses are done developing and maybe not done, horses are bred to be good super, super early, even as a two year old before the Derby. And then some horses don't get better to, you know, more time passes. And a lot of us, with our genetics and their breeding. So

me I'm always looking for that late developing horse the horse is maybe starting to develop now but he's got second or third in some of the prep so that's it. This is gonna be one that I look a lot deeper into Anthony I kind of like this horse yeah yeah I like the sovereignty yeah Who's he out of? He is out of Intimishif. One the best tires in the country.

like from Bernadini. Yep that's a big Bernadini fan so. AP Indy comes from AP Indy. Bernadini came out of the AP Indy family. AP Indy and Empire Maker. Dude this horse got some good breeding. On the bottom he can run all day on the bottom. On the top end of mesh shifts you're gonna have speed. That's good as breeding as you get. Trained by Mott. I like Mott. He takes his time with his horses. He don't rush his horses. He takes his time.

Go Dolphin. When I see that name. They spend money. Yep. When I see Go Dolphin the sheiks. I'm double and triple checking horses. Put it this way. They come to Lexington every year. I have a friend that runs security details of the detective down

He runs security, they tip them very good. I heard stories, they land there. There's two airports in Lexington, one of them's like 10 miles close to the billion dollar farm that they brought. And they gotta pay like a $100,000 fine to land at that airport instead of the other airport because it's like 10 miles closer. They paid the $100,000 fine, Charlie.

I believe it. That ain't shit to them guys. They just turned the pump a little bit. turned the knob on the old pump out there. literally the princes of Dubai. They're like two brothers, but they do say they're good horsemen. They go to the sales theirself. They don't just send people there with money.

and they go to the cells, they rub the horses like they're horsemen, they wanna be involved with it. And they say they've always treated people in Lexington good. they don't just come in and throw their money around. Actually, Baffert had got caught screwing them over early on, like on a sale, try to bid a horse up at an auction and they won't use, they got their own in-house breeders now, but at first they were using Baffert. But that was a story I heard from when I was in equine school, UofL, from a lawyer that was there.

sure Lexington treats them good too. you know a lot of people on all this there's a huge luxury tax when they buy those horses 20 % or something like that. when they buy those horses at the sale and some of them are four or five million dollars they pay like a 20 % of luxury tax on it. you something else about sovereignty. Yeah. Sounds like a derby winner.

I got you. You like that angle don't Sounds like it. I'm not picking my horse. I used to like that angle. But some horses just sound like a dirty winner. I feel like they won't sound like it after they do it though. Cause I used to have that angle too. Country house. Yeah, or mind that bird, that's stupid. Country house might be the dumbest horse name ever.

But anyhow, you got Rodriguez 10 to 1 Tappan Street. He just won the Florida Derby 10 to 1. That's who Sovereign's he came second. So I'm gonna have to rewatch that. Burnham Square. He actually won the Holy Bull.

He got third in the fountain of youth, then they brought him up to Keeneland for the bluegrass, which is one of the major preps. He closed from dead last and nosed out one of my horses, East Avenue, Burnham Square he's actually a guilty for those of you don't know. got his nuts clipped. They probably hate that right now because he's turning out to be really good and his breeding would probably be worth a lot, but they clipped the dude's nuts, probably made him a better runner.

But I can always feel bad for them when they clip their nuts. But sometimes they needed to calm them down because they're just so full of energy. So they go to them and they just make them better race horses. But a horse being that good, you hate yourself because there's so much money in breathing. Burnham Square looks good too. No, it

You got the terrible name. It's got to mean something. I'm sure it's maybe it's a place or something.

Japan's been sending one over every year and they're getting closer and closer with the quality of horses they're bringing. This year they had a 15 to one. He's out of American Feral, which is an American sire. everybody knows that name. It's a Luxor Cafe. He's two for two in Japan. I never know how to take those races, but I do know the Japanese are doing good the international stage. they seem to be very good horsemen. They actually got started in horse racing when we did not want Sunday Silence. He was an American champion, but he didn't

breeding some of the American breeders from wanted the Japanese volume they were trying to get into horse racing So like half the horses that are in Japan are related to Sunday sound one of our champions So it's cool, but they're they put a lot of energy and money into horse racing over the last 30 years and they've done a good job with it and they're up there up and coming country and horse racing Citizen bull one of Charlie's older horses 20 to 120 to

You got East Avenue, which is one of my top picks. He got nosed out by Burnham Square. was 20 to 1. He actually won the Breeders Futurity and was the favorite of the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He was the champion for two-year-olds. He broke dead last. He stumbled out of the gate. Who we on now? East Avenue. Oh yeah. East Avenue. And his breeding is top of the line, man.

out of Medaglio Dora on the top, the sire side on the bottom side, the go zapper. So he's bred as good as any of them. It's Brendan Walsh, he's a good dolphin as well. East Avenue and he got nosed out by Burnham Square. Final game, it's 30 to one, it's one of mine. It's Brad Cox horse. He closed to win the Jeff Ruby stakes. I think he's out to the tap it fight. No, not this time, which is a really good sire. On the bottom half, it's tapping.

Which

is distance forever kind of like final game a little bit 31, but right now probably my top horse is 21 grind egg He's out of curling. He's the other curling the favorites out of curling too But this is the other curling reminds me of the invisible ink and point given we're both out of Thunder Gulch But this is the other horse out of curling. He was he's that all my micro poly which on uncle mullen fears since last year He's a big owner trained by Todd Fletcher a big trainer, but he was two for two

Made it an allowance, he ran the wood for try to get in the derby He got second to Rodriguez but closed and went wide but that was only his third race and he was still green I think he's your late developer

As long as he gets decent post that probably will be my pick because I like his eyes. I like his breathing. I like that looks like he's still green still got some upside to him and man looks like he's got a lot of talent. Mike Rappelli throws money around all over the place. A lot of people don't like the guy. I actually do like the I like him.

in New York guy but I like him and y'all probably heard us mention him he's the guy that throws the money around to Rick Pitino. he's Rick's guy Rick calls him whenever he needs some money. He's the vitamin water guy sold that to Coke I think it was. time What I like about it is he kept fierceness so fierceness in my opinion was the best worst in the country last year did a lot to prove it he kept him in racing most of those guys retire him and send him to stud.

the money's in breeding. of them horses can demand $500,000 a pop and breeding seasons for three months and they can go twice a day. 500 and that's no guaranteed baby. That's just a guaranteed mouth. So you better bring fertility drugs for your females. $500,000 a pop Charlie twice a day son. He's got the best job in the world don't he?

you know I'm gonna get your take on this because I I mentioned when I see Go Dolphin yeah that I always it draws my eye yeah there's there's three other that I can think of right here off the top of my head ownership groups Judd Mott Judd Mott, Windstar yeah always makes me

Double check the horse. Gary and Mary West. Good owners. And I'm going to tell you Mike Rapoli is in there now, man. When I see Rapoli's name, I'm always doubling, triple checking before I scoot past that horse, man. I feel like he's kind of got in that little group for me. I got you. Is there anybody else I'm missing? I mean, there's some others, but for me, there's two and there's everybody else.

I'm not saying they're the best owners. I'm just saying they got the most money and they spend the most money. They're the biggest operations. know, so Godolphin is really a new operation. It's the sheeps. had all that old money. At first they tried to buy Kentucky to every winners, train them in Dubai. Dude, they put so much money in the horse race over the last 30 years. They didn't have nothing. They had no, like no breeding, no nothing. They start buying horses, just throwing big money at horses, buying.

at auction they start getting their own siders they start they got Godoph in USA Godoph in Australia so to me they're number two to me Judmont is number one from stuff I've read they're the biggest spenders biggest players in the they're Irish is who they are but they got Judmont USA they got a big operation here in Kentucky they're the ones I think it owns FlightRide

I think they took him over there. That's maybe where flight line is. They might be breathing him on both ways, but I think or was that him they took over there? I forget,

Judd Munt, they're the Irish. They're the biggest spenders in the game, man. I think they're the ones that brought American Feral. spend the money when they want something. They didn't buy him when he raced. They brought him for his breeding. Judd Munt, I'd say them, Godolphin. But yeah, I like Rapalje. I like Rapalje. There's some things on some personal levels I don't like him for, I'm not gonna get into. But I like that he kept his horse. And he's challenged other people to keep their horses in. He said, let's have match races. Not match races, let's go meet each other on the track.

retire

what happens in horse racing a lot of times after they win a few breeder like triple crown races they retire them because there's so much money in breeding like they're just did you think about it and a broken leg is not just a broken leg and a horse broken leg is a broken horse breeding deals can be huge dead horse yeah I mean really sad to say but

horse breaks his leg and it's most of the time it's inflate chance to take but I agree I hate it I hate it but covid before inflation it was rumored that American Feral Jedmont paid two or three million dollars for his breeding rights and they think they're gonna make money off that

We're starting to see some of the American Pharaohs last year. He hasn't been the hottest. He's been a good solid, but man, they paid a lot for him. I can't wait to see flight lines. Let tell you who has been good. And he was an extra current winner. Justify has been a good sire. Yeah, Justify has shown a Sometimes it's not always the best horse. Secretaria was never a sire. There's a horse that was a two-year-old champion. He was on his way to Derby to be one of the favorites, but he's one of the hottest sires in the country right now. A lot of people don't know the name because he never ran.

this time got one or two I think he had one or two last year I think mage might have been not this time fierceness might have been a knock not this time all right so the Derby winner is not in the Derby Anthony who's that cornucopia we both agree with that the Derby winners not even running in the Derby I think the horse is a superstar cornucopia

Shout out to Travis Onan, he's been talking about this horse too. Horse is a beast. We think he is. I think he is. I'm almost positive this horse is slated to run in the pat day mile on derby day. You'll probably have to bet about five to nine hundred dollars to get back a hundred. Just drink a beer and watch the race, don't even bet it. I think he rolls in the pat day mile and we're...

He'd come back in the Preakness, right? Yeah, well they paid big money for him. Y'all, they will. That's what they're shooting for. He's gonna roll in the pat day mile and then he's gonna come back in the Preakness. He's gonna beat the dog shit out of whoever wins the Derby. that's my I know early prediction. I know right there. This is back for its first year back for the Derby and I know he wanted that horse for the Derby. So the story with the Miss kind of a late developer, not really late, but like three year old terms.

He won his maiden in February. race he in was in February romped. They paid a lot for him. He's out of into mischief. He's out of just sort of humor on the bottom half. His breeding is awesome. He ran the Arkansas Derby. He was the favorite just second raced out. That tells you a lot. He went out there and ran crazy fast fractions. Crazy. I think it was like 45 for y'all. I don't know. It's too fast on the front end. I love John Velasquez, but they had to give him that

message that you there was another horse that pushed him but they had to tell him how you got to have the lead dude he did it and he still like he had finished him fourth but usually when you run that fast early you're at the back of the pack barely trotting home he only lost by like four or five lengths when he went that fast early that's impressive especially for a second out I think the horse has a lot of talent. First big race for that horse I think I think Johnny Vee. He had to have extra.

maybe bad for Tony me. I want him on the lead no matter what that happens sometimes Yeah, it was just the other horse went out with him the other horse that went out with him actually was like a top third for picking that race in it like a big prep for the Derby

And that horse ended up spitting wind at the end, like barely making it across the wire. He only lost by four or five links. That's not a lot considering you went 45. track announcer, like he was going backwards at time, from the stretch, he kind of geared in and fall out there and we lost by four links. mean, for those that don't know, when you go that fast early, you're supposed to fall on your face.

They were what about seven or eight lengths in front of the rest of the field. It was way too far. I'm sure Baffert and Johnny Beal make an adjustment. They're pulling back from mile and an eighth to a mile and the

they're gonna he's gonna romp in that. Even though I did look at the Pat DeMile and it looks to be pretty competitive but I think this horse rolls, think, comes back in the pruteness and wins the pruteness. I would say I don't bad for wouldn't run him in the Pat DeMile but this is bad for his first time back to Kentucky you know he got suspended by the Derby and I do think he runs him on Derby Day.

gonna want to bring his best foot forward because he was suspended. He had a thing with CDI and I definitely think he brings him in the pat day mile just to show everybody I got one too. You'll be you'll see him soon. Looks like see him in Maryland. The pat day mile right now is looking like Owen Almighty, which was he was derby trail. Yeah, he was

Gaming he's a good one. That's bad for tours. He one of the Derby favorites at one point That's another bad for horse. You got a D Wayne horse there innovator. He was a horse is out of authentic pat day miles loaded Sorcerer's silver which is for a good magic horse. I'm not sure how good that horse is It looks like he's coming off of allowance. So he's probably stepping way up

But then you got California Burrito was in the Jeffery B. Stakes didn't do great. But then you got cornucopian.

That's strong feel. It is a strong feel. I bet your corny coping is still seven to five.

We're not the only ones thinking about him. He's pretty hot on horse racing topics. Oh, yeah. I'm not saying we're the only ones on him. Clever again. Looks like an Assmussen horse out of American Pharaoh was actually first in that Hot Springs race, which gaming came in second. Gaming might be a hot horse hole because he had a bad race and he was supposed to be a big thing. I like Assmussen too, man. He's one

His son's pretty good.

You know, gaming, He won his mate in my lot. Won the Del Mar Futurity. He had a great one.

Citizen bull in that race come back second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile to citizens bull one citizen bull kind of had everything his way in that race Takes his layoff This is where he got kind of pace here in the Los Alaminos maturity, which is a great to it's a derby prep He got third to go Journalism and then the southwest he got eighth at Oakmont But they didn't come back in the hot spring stakes and got second. So maybe he's running back in form he was supposed to be a big thing though. They're pointing him towards

the preteness I'm sitting here looking at schedule as Paddy Malm in the preteness. That's what cornucopia says too so remember that name cornucopia yeah let's keep an eye on gaming too but I'm with you I like like Pat DeMille is setting up to be pretty good it is very strong Owen O'Moddy is legit

too. I think the distance just got too far for him. I don't think that horse was ever. Sometimes you get these people to try to stretch their horses out because they want to get them out on a quarter for a derby because it's you know it's everybody's bucket list but sometimes they got to come back to the distance what they're bred for.

always ran good when he's ran in the mile or somewhere around there They try to stretch him out in the bluegrass and he got six. So he won the Tampa Bay Derby got second the Sammy Sammy Davis, which is a big prep got second second at the Aircoys last year and he won the Ellis Park Juvenile So he's got a good resume He's just out of Spitztown and you know, those those horses are usually my allers

WNBA draft is going on right now keeping up with it We've had enough tonight page backers number one You don't keep up with it. I couldn't even tell you the names of the teams Chicago sky we don't need We don't need we don't need stuff that bad the WNBA draft going on live We should we should have been like live correspondent

Cut him off, cut him off, flask off, he's sneaking bourbon. I mean I'm saying, it drew my attention right there. Got you. Haley Van Lyth. None of them girls like your type son. Yeah, you're right about that. No, I won't say that because they're sure they're selling them. Cut that, cut that. I did. Yeah, let's just cut it. That's probably good idea.

shit. All I think that's about it guys. It is also Easter week. Have a good Easter. Anthony, have a good Easter. I know your son is getting baptized on Saturday night. That's awesome. Congrats to Rex. Proud of him for that. I need all three of my kids and my wife to get baptized. So we're in the process of...

getting that done to Rex for that. Thank you, Charlie. this day...

Not to get religious, but this day 25 years ago on this, on Monday was the day I think Jesus wrote into Jerusalem and you know, everybody cheered for him because he was the 25 years ago, 2020, everybody cheered for him because they were saying he was the King. Well, of course the Kings of the time didn't like that. And that's funny. You know, it got bad from there, but on Monday of this week was the day that he wrote in and everybody cheered for him as King. And that's when the bad news started for him. Of he died.

on Friday.
