All right. Welcome back to another episode of the blitz, the bookie podcast. I'm Charlie Winkle joined as always by Anthony Roberts. is Tuesday, February 11th. The dust has settled on the 2024 NFL season. We have a new champion. The Philadelphia Eagles go down to New Orleans and put belt to ass. They did on the Kansas city chiefs.
They take down the two time defending Super Bowl champions and they do it in blowout fashion. Not a super exciting game, but if you were a Philly fan or a Kansas City hater, you got exactly what you wanted and I'm sure you loved every second of it.
Also a big night in college basketball, especially for us Kentucky fans. Kentucky is playing number four, number five, Tennessee, Tennessee here in just a little bit. I think we're about a half an hour away from tip So we will get into a little bit of college basketball as well. before we get into everything guys, thank you all for listening. We appreciate you taking the time out of your day to check us out.
Don't forget like and subscribe on your favorite streaming platforms and check us out on the blitz, the bookie, Facebook, Tik TOK and YouTube pages. All right, Anthony, belt to ass. was over in what first quarter, second quarter. No, it was, ass whooping the game. not super exciting. but initial thought Anthony, the sides.
ass whooping, were, they were the best team I think they were the best team in football in general. I think the best team won the bowl. Of course I was on the Rams, the bills, the Bengals, but the Rams gave him a good game compared to last two. but they're total lineup. They're all offensive, defensive line, everything they got.
are a very complete team. Maybe one of the more complete teams I've seen in the salary cap era. we'll get into the game here in a bit, but I think you pretty much summed it up. The defensive line of Philly came to play don't know if I have ever seen my homes under the constant pressure that he was under in that game. the first two possessions,
The defensive line for Philly set the pace of the game just dominated the rest of the but before we get into all game action, let's talk about the everything surrounding the Superbowl that makes the Superbowl the great event that it is.
Most people don't even watch for the damn game. Commercials and halftime shows and pregame and post game and everything else in between. It's kind of unique in that sense because I have women around me, Charlie, that are not into football. they're just not into it. They want to commercials or something. Yeah. But when it's Superbowl, excited, they're trying to get in jackpots. for us local people here in Louisville, it's almost like the Derby. Most people don't go to the racetrack much, but
Every day they're all about it. So it's an event more than just a football game. It's you know, it's a great American event. It is wives end up watching grandmas, grandpas, kids that don't normally sit there and watch the game and watch it. So it is it's an event. And like I said, it's kind of built around everything else. I mean, the game is the game for football fans, but everything else is just spectacle for
Tons of people that do not how many people watch the Super Bowl? I don't know. you know the numbers? I'm not sure. That's gotta be a ton of huge number. but how many people that watch the Super Bowl probably don't watch much football the rest of the season. I'd say it's pretty big percentage. heard a stat the other day. There was one Superbowl where the actual half time performance got more views in the Superbowl when that was, the Michael Jackson,
I think they were out in California somewhere, but it got more views than the game. Yes. There was more people tuned in for the halftime performance and the actual game. I can believe that with Mike. So let's start off at the beginning of the game. National anthem.
Real quick. I don't know who the guy was. Do you know who the guy was? no, I do not. Yeah. I don't know who he was. Was he playing piano? Was he playing a piano or I actually missed the very beginning of the national anthem. I walked in about halfway through and he altered the end of it. Did you notice that Anthony? No, I did. He didn't change the words, but he
he said one of the lines at the end like three times. I hated a traditionalist when it comes to especially like that. You cannot change the national anthem. Do you agree with that Anthony? you know, I'm very traditional I'm very old school if you want to pull a note out a little long or something That's one thing but you can't repeat a line or change words. I'll be honest with you I think it was way back when and there's been a few of them but Cindy Lauper back in the day she kind of
I'm not saying made a mockery out of it, but to me, if you're singing the Superbowl, the National Anthem, World Stage, All Eyes Are On Us, that's our National Anthem, you keep it pretty, yeah, pretty conservative. Pretty, yeah, you know, you sang the song, you use your best vocals to sing it. If you want to do a couple highs and lows, that's okay. But it's the National Anthem. not made to make a mockery out of or try to make it
I feel like when people do that, they try to make it bigger than them. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm not even, I'm not trying to say this guy, whoever he was, was trying to make a mockery of the national anthem, but I do think he was trying to make that moment more about him than when somebody sings the national anthem, it's not about the person singing the national anthem. Even if you're famous, it's not about you. So I do think he made that moment about him. I just don't like it. I don't care who it is.
Could have been my favorite singer, favorite artist. If they would have did that, I would have absolutely hated it. I just think that's like a cardinal rule. You can't do it. No, for me, you know, to me, the best national anthem I'd heard, and I think she's the best singer of all time. Male or female, the one I always remember is the Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston. I thought she killed it. Houston killed about everything that she sung.
But the other thing about the national anthem, they showed Trump. Did you notice that? Yeah, I did. They showed Trump during the national anthem, He got sounded like a loud applause to me. Kind of hard to tell with everything going on, but I did hear some knucklehead, local radio host here say that he thought, and I want to see what you think about this.
He thought that it was a great idea to put Trump on the screen during the national anthem because nobody would be able to boo him. If he was up during the national Oh, he, it's 50 50 our country's about 50 50. So, you know, whatever you want to call it. don't agree with that. We've people have already showed that they'll kneel during the national anthem and do all that stuff. Why wouldn't they boo? I mean,
If they'll kneel or, and not acknowledge the national anthem, you don't think they'll boo in the national anthem. I just thought that was stupid, if people going boom, they're going boom,
You know, he was the first president to ever attend a Super Bowl. I did not know that first president ever. To attend a Super Bowl. in New Orleans. I'm very surprised. Yeah, maybe tickets are too hard to get. Ain't nobody giving those tickets up. Yeah, Secret Service and everybody. Let me ask you this. If the president shows up to the Super Bowl with no tickets, no nothing.
without his people making calls. Does he get in and does he get, I know, but where does he go? Like, how do you think that I'm sure they let him in, but how do you think that works? I just walked a general admission if I was him. I just want to walk through the turnstile. I'm him, got you. And then where do you go? I'm sure you may go up to a luxury booth, but does somebody let you in their luxury booth? That's a fan. I'm going up to the 500 levels and sitting with the people. I got you. Imagine Trump up in the 500 level of the, what is it? The superdome. Yep. Imagine him all the way up at the top.
I'd be cool. sat all the way up at the top of the Superdome for the 2012 national championship, Kentucky. It's way up. It's way up there. It'd be great if it almost be like Trump going to McDonald's and working at McDonald's like he did. Remember I pulled his little stunt. I'd be a good little publicity thing. Go up there with the people and sit down in the the
five or 600 section for a little bit. You've seen it with the there's a TV show where the CEOs dress up and they go in their companies work like what was that undercover boss. That was a great day. thought I think every boss should do that. That was a that was a fun show to watch. you not to get off subject, but I can't stand Charlie. I've worked at places throughout the year when I was younger. You you work at Lowe's or you work at a restaurant.
And the manager would always be like, okay, we got the health department or we got the regional manager coming in three days. We got to get, if I was the regional manager, if I was the health department, I not let people know when I'm coming in. I want to know how this place is getting run on an everyday basis. I never understood that. That doesn't make any sense. Cause you know what they do. They deep clean for two, three days and then they never, they don't clean again for a year until a guy comes back. Well, maybe that's why they do it. maybe they're thinking that gets them one deep cleaning.
A year. not get into the food that we eat. Cause that could get ugly. Yep. All right. Commercials. Do you watch any? do not watch commercials. I didn't, but if, my wife and her parents were here, they could tell y'all about the commercials. I don't, maybe years ago when the bud bow used to play, that's why they should bring back the bud bow. They didn't do it this year, I've watched a few over the years.
It really just for me depends what environment I was. mean, in the last couple of years, we've been with my wife's family over their house. They do a little small kind of family party, but me and Rex, my son, we've been in some ping pong wars. So anytime we got a break during the game, we were down on the ping pong table. So, yeah, I mean, in the breaks, I'm getting food, I'm getting a drink, I'm getting some fresh air, whatever I need to do, but I do not watch the commercial. I saw one commercial, Anthony.
The seal commercial. know I told you about it. Did you, did you watch it? I hadn't watched. You remember seal? Yeah. I kind of seen like a, I think just, heard the song or something. So I know what you're, know, and I don't even know what the commercial was for. have no clue, but I look up and I see seal, which
Glad seal still live. I didn't even know he was still around. I mean, it's been a long time since what was it? Kiss the road kiss for the rose. Kiss the road. What was it called? Batman Returns. was it? What in the song? Kiss from a rose. Yes. a rose. Yeah. It's been a while since kiss from a rose, but I look up and seals face is on a seal. Yeah, it was weird. It was super weird. I think my, my wife and my kids were being loud. I couldn't even tell what I was watching, but I
I texted a couple of people right after that and said, did anybody see seal on the seal? Cause that was weird. So that was literally like the only commercial that I paid attention to. So if there was any good ones, maybe hit us up on the social media and let us know what your favorite commercials were. Cause I didn't, I, that was the only one I they say the commercials for the super bowl costs so much money, Charlie. I wonder if that's why they didn't do away with the bud bowl. Cause remember they cut in several times, Budweiser probably couldn't afford all those, all those commercials now.
they would cut in like, you know, maybe seven or eight times during the game. That would cost him a fortune with how much today's Superbowl ads cost. Budweiser probably got a ton of them anyways. Yeah, I bet you they have.
They've got to have, I mean, I don't want to put a number on it, but I'm sure Budweiser got a lot of commercials throughout the Super Bowl. Yeah. So if you came here to hear about the commercials, you're out of luck because we don't really watch commercials around here at Blitz the Bookie. My kids don't even.
They think the world's end. And when a commercial comes on, they're so used to being able to hit skip ad when you're on the, watching the TV and you can't do it. They're like, what the hell is this? I'm like, yeah, well, this is how it used to be. You just got to watch the commercials for a couple of minutes. right. I do want speak on one thing that I don't think that I've heard anybody talk about. I'm sure I'm not the first one to mention this. They might even have mentioned it on the broadcast.
Brady, Tom Brady calling the Superbowl in his first year the booth. Yeah. I was, they talk about that. Did they mention that on the broadcast or anything? I don't think so. it was kind of thought that was a little bit surprising. I'm assuming it was a Fox thing. The Superbowl was on Fox this year. I think they're doing a rotation between a couple of different
on the Superbowl And I guess this was Fox's year. And assuming that Fox's top guy is Tom Brady. I'm sure, you know, I'm sure Charlie, they spent a lot of money for Tom Brady. And so they, he had got better all year. We had talked about this definitely got better all year. And what better way to try to build somebody's brand? they felt confident enough to the sending mouth there and
Super Bowl, Tom Brady, they kind of go together. and you spend all this money on somebody. So you're trying to essentially build his brain up. it makes sense if you're Fox, when you got that big of an investment, you're almost like you're on the first year of the contract. How many year ever contract it is almost like a rookie contract. I'm sure his isn't a rookie contract though, but you're trying to get into that. I'm sure they paid a lot. So they're trying to get into that high level of people really want to tune in for him.
So what better way to kind of promoting than to have him on the Superbowl? Probably a good move by Fox. He did a good job. He He did a good job and I totally agree. He has gotten better. The first couple of weeks this year. It was all over the place. Everybody was talking about how bad he was and I'll give the guy credit. He's great at everything he does and I guarantee he worked his ass off because he got better. He was trying the internet pressure.
was not on all year. The first couple of weeks, the internet pressure was bad. They were frying him for how bad he was. And I didn't see it the rest of the year. So I give him credit. I saw a video real quick. I'll let you chime in. But I saw a video just like yesterday of Tom Brady talking about his performance in the Super Bowl a few years back against Kansas City and how he knew.
everything that Kansas City's defense was going to do. He knew their movements. He knew their linebackers, the way they move their, their DBs, their safeties. And he straight up said that was his superpower. He said, my superpower was not being the biggest, the fastest, the strongest. My superpower was I was willing to work my ass off
put in the time to watch the film to know before the ball was snapped what I was going to have to do with the ball. Sure. you could see it in his and I'm, and he did that. He's, think he's done that with his broads. Sure. I you know how I feel. I love that's what I like to see how I like to see the quarterback position being played. I like him in quarterbacks have to make quick decisions and they can make them.
That's why, you know, I value a guy like Tom Brady or whoever it is. I like quick thinkers that can get it out. I think that's how the position should be played. But that's not today's game, guy's like Manning, guys like Brady, they're going to bring pressure and they're going to hit you and they're, you know, they're not holding back. Have you seen the video I'm talking about? No, I haven't. Because you literally, he said what you just said. He said,
I work my ass off to be able to before the ball is snapped, know what is going on. And he then said, guys these days do not play. don't like that. They don't watch. He said they like to get out of the pocket. And he literally said the same thing that you're saying. it's cause that, well, the big thing is they don't, you can't hit no more. also mentioned Peyton Manning and Drew Brees being those type of guys.
Some people probably agree with it, some don't. But the two things I've said it all year, the two things in my opinion, why that happens is the what they allow offensive linemen to do with the hold and then be you can't hit the quarterback. The reason people did not run as much back then because you didn't last because you got hit, with today's rules, how they protect the quarterback, there's not much value in getting rid of the ball quick. These guys just scramble around and somebody gets open.
They take very low risk stuff. And if it's not there, they take out front and So that's where the rule changes changed how the quarterback positions played. I'll give a lot of credit to guys like Stafford and there's a few left, but there's not many that play that way because in today's game, these quarterback, they take very little risk.
So Brady took that work ethic right into the booth. And I think he made a big improvement from week one or two to now he's calling the super bowl. And I do think that he did a pretty good job.
One of them even. I know everybody saw the controversial call early in the game. What was it? Pass interference, pass interference. Did anybody notice when they went to commercial after that? What one of the I don't know if it was Tom or the other guy, but did anybody notice what the announcer said when they were going to a commercial? I give him credit. What was, where they kind of called him out a little bit. said controversial call to start the game right as they were cutting to commercial.
I'm sure you got the green light on that right as they were going to commercial. He called it out I don't know this for a fact but I bet you they almost either get the green light on that or they don't because I do feel like they got a hold so much in they know where their limits are though. think they're allowed they're allowed to criticize a little bit or call them out.
I bet you they keep doing it really hard. The NFL, negotiations are talking about new contracts for who gets what, probably comes up. Let's get some comedians calling these games. let's try with Peyton and Eli and them. Yeah, but they're football guys. Let's get some real comedians in there that'll just straight up call them out. Like when bad calls are made, they just clown them.
that would be funny. right. Halftime show. One of the probably most talked about halftime shows in a long time for a lot of different reasons. We're not going to get into the political side of it. I know there was a political,
Side to that, there's some hidden messages and all that. But what I want to talk about Anthony, of course, everybody wanted to know, was he going to play the song? He kept teasing it. He would play a couple of little bars from it, tease it and then go somewhere else. He did end up playing the song at the end, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm going to shift though to the car. There was a lot of chatter about the car on stage. Did you see? mean, I know you've seen it. Yeah, I did.
I heard a lot of the chatter about it as well. apparently 1987 grand national, but I think everybody kind of thought it was a GNX, which is a 200 or $250,000 car. I read an article that it was actually not a real GNX. It was a grand national.
but it was modified to look like the GNX. And I know you noticed, I'm sure everybody else did.
they cut the floorboard out of it so they could bring all the people up through the floor. That was pretty cool. was. Charlie was like, how's all, where's all the people coming from? Well, I think everybody thought that if I, so I maybe like went to underneath the car and then I could see like a little box that looked like, fog, but they did a good job with it. I feel like they could if they would have kept certain camera angles, they probably could have hid that, put a little bit more smoke up underneath there. I think they could have hit it cause they almost had a hit. So apparently
Kendrick Lamar is a grand national fan. Outlast album was actually called GNX. our buddy Barry, he texted now. That was the first thing he said. He's like, man, I wasn't even watching the performance. was just looking at the car. So for all you car gurus, I know y'all had fun with that. It was a sweet ride. yeah, they say that GNX is about a $250,000 ride.
I think the regular Grand Nationals pretty expensive too, just not to that level. So they made it look like the GNX. It's not actually the GNX that everybody kind of thought it was As for the performance.
Look, I'm 43, but I grew up in best era of rap. I love old school rap like 90s rap. I'm a little fan of Kendrick Lamar little bit. I just don't like the new school stuff, so I'm going to be honest here with my opinion on the actual performance.
thought it was terrible until about the last five minutes. And the only reason I think I liked the last five minutes was just because of the whole going at Drake thing there at the end. And I don't even dislike Drake, I just liked the drama. So to me, I thought the performance was bad, but what's crazy is...
the difference in opinions on this because I had a good buddy of mine text me right after and say he thought that it was the best performance in a long time. And he's not even one that I would think that he's a big hip hop head, but he doesn't like the commercialized hip hop. likes more of the underground stuff. So very surprising that I got that message from him. I did. I just didn't like it. I know you're not a big rap fan, so you probably didn't like the performance.
But what did you think of the actual music side performance of it? Anthony? I it's hard to hard to Understand what they were saying wasn't it sure for me. Look, I'm not a fan of rap So you need to like 90s rap when we was? I was no matchbox 20 like I like I like you know, it's but it's whatever I'm not saying that I never listened a couple
know, rap songs, if I was at party hanging out with my friends. And maybe there was a few here or there that were a little catchy. But so I went to three rap concerts once again, just an opportunity for a good time with some friends. Went to an OutKast concert, went to a 50 Cent concert. I've been to many country, many rock concerts. OutKast? OutKast? I like the airport. you finish your No, they're probably not. I want to hear about the OutKast. They're probably I feel like they would put on a decent show. They probably are.
Like if I had to pick a favorite rap group, that would probably be my favorite rap group. in saying all that, I like all types of music. Rap's probably my least favorite though, I will say. but I will say this, I went to three rap, maybe this is why, I went to three rap concerts. And I guess for them to duplicate the sound in person.
that they put together in the studio, if when I go to like a country concert or a rock concert, performances, they're, I mean, you can still get the vocals, you can still get the, uh, and they're sold out. it's these rap concerts on 250 cent was really big at the time and it was maybe half full in Lexington, but they're just running around jumping. That's all I was. So outcasts wasn't no good.
It was okay. It was okay. I'll cast. We'll put on a little bit. was probably the best of the three 50 cent probably being the worst. I went to the big timers when I was younger and it was awful. Dude. I mean, I will say this. Oh, they put like I go to these country and rock concerts and they're big productions. can tell they put a lot in the choreograph and the smoke, the lights, the video.
When I went to these rap concerts, just like they just do them together. Yeah, they put their boys up on the stage. They put about 25 of their boys up there and they all pound their chest and yell and scream. It's not the same print. Like when you listen to rap on the radio or on I was going to say a CD. What year are we in?
You go, when you pop that cassette tape in and you listen to rap, it sounds different than when you listen to it in person. It just does. I'm not sure. I guess, like you said, that it's just hard to duplicate the sound of the Sure. I guess for me, like when I was young, and this is just me, and I know I had plenty of friends that like rap. I know you and Barry both like rap. but I always felt like people was just liking it because that's...
what was supposedly in style at the time or whatever, but when I listened to it, it never did a lot for me. Like, and that's just me just being honest, but everybody sees, hears stuff different. Everybody hears stuff different. And that's the great thing about music. I consider myself a little bit of a hip hop head, but it's more of the nineties. once it got past the mid two thousands, I didn't really.
was never interested in the new artist So everything I listened to is the stuff I listened to in the 90s in the early 2000s.
you cannot go wrong with a rock concert though rock concerts are awesome. They're good. I almost say some of country concerts are better. I went to, seen the rolling stones. are good. right. Church Hill. Downs church. came to Churchill Downs. Best concert ever. I will say this. I've seen people that were like hip hop people, people that like rap music and I've seen them go to country concerts. some ones at the time, some performers that were
really had a big show at the time. And a lot of times, you get to talk to them and they would just come away really impressed. Oh, I guarantee it. You can't beat a country concerts. I'm not a big country fan, but my wife is, and we've been to a couple shows. They're fun. They are. They're fun. They're a good time. They really are good scenery too. No, no doubt. No doubt about that. Real good scenery. So I'm taking it that you didn't like the actual music. Look for me.
It was hard to understand. For anybody that likes it, more power to them. like there's, I respect people's choice of music. really it's, but, oh, that is not sound to me. That's not easy on the ears.
I'm not a jazz fan. But you'll hear some jazz something and you'll be like, that sounds pretty good. I'm not an R &B. But know, boys and men come on, back in the day.
Sounds pretty good. it's kind of easy on the ears. and I always felt like there was things about outcast that were easy on the for me, it's a, that's why I kind of liked them. I would have liked to see our cast back in the day. That would have been one that I would have liked, but yeah, I, I think the big timers concert was the only rap concert I ever went to. And it was absolutely awful. I've been to probably 20.
rock concerts and five country concerts and they're all head and shoulders above that big timers concert. was awful. maybe there's other performers like to me when I think outcasts, I think outcasts will put on more of a show than just the singing and rapping part.
And there probably is some little John, little John probably put remember a little John from back in the day. He probably put on a show just because of the shit that he does. But yeah, it's, it's hard to, it's hard to compete with a good rock or country concert. will say this any concert. I've always said this by concerts, give me an indoor concert. 10 times out of 10 over an outdoor concert. Now I understand the vibe of out time concert at summertime, the big stadiums, but they sound so much better indoors.
Churchill Downs was awesome. Was it? Okay. Did it sound good? Yeah. Maybe because it was, it wasn't so far away. You were just kind of right there. There was a lot smaller than being in the stadium. Yeah. The stadium outdoor stadium kills the sound. It's different when you're indoors, man. It's I saw Aerosmith indoors. Holy shit. couldn't hear for three days.
speaking of the halftime shows just real quick, and we have not even discussed this favorite halftime shows of all time, just off the top of your head. Just once I remember, I remember the Michael Jackson. the one that always comes in my mind from a kid, everybody talks about, course, Prince Prince. Yeah. That's purple rain in the rain. No doubt. Couldn't beat that one. That was really good. Two or three years ago, Snoop and Dre and all of them. love that one.
that one was awesome for all of us. Little older. I don't know how you felt about that one, one was good. I never been like, I'll be honest with you. I'm a football guy and I look, I love the halftime show because it brings in people that maybe normally wouldn't watch it. My wife one day a year watches football with me. so I appreciate what super is, but I'm a traditionalist. I'm
I'm a football head. And so the halftime show, the commercials that don't do a lot for me, but I appreciate what they are. I've never been a fan of the halftime shows. I've always got other stuff going on at halftime, but will say the Prince halftime. I remember watching the Snoop.
and Dre one two or three years ago, I stayed inside to make sure I watched that one. And I did watch this year just because of all the drama. But I'm like you. It's kind of like the commercials to me. I'm not like, yeah, let's watch this halftime show. I'm usually up and out doing something else.
I just I don't really watch them. So Prince though, I think that's gotta be number one. The Michael Jackson one was big. Michael Jackson one was big.
was there any other nonsense that we missed? No, wish we knew more commercials. I'm sure there was some good ones. I don't know any though.
are you a ping pong player, Charlie? I will play ping pong. I don't. Me and Rex have got. So we play a lot my mother-in-law anytime we go over there. She got a nice ping pong table in the basement. We have tournaments. And both of us have got really good over the years. Just go in there and play and compete. And dude, I could play ping pong.
That is my secret love is ping pong. I can play ping pong all and you get good. The more it's hand-eye coordination, the more you do it, the better you get. The more aggressive you can get. ping pong is an underrated sport. Ping pong is fun. I used to love it when I was a kid. think my grandmother, by marriage, she had one. So we would play it. We would play when we went to her house. But yeah, I never had a ping pong table or anything like that.
Anytime somebody had one, I was ready to play. I used to be good. haven't played in such a long time. got pretty good. mean, I, think I'm now I'm sure if come in and just roll me, that was really, really good. But for an average guy that puts some time into it, I've got where I'm pretty aggressive and can really work the paddles but my son, surprisingly 12 years old, it's got really good. And I think sometimes the kids having a vantage because they're lower to the ground. Rex is pretty good. He's
Probably almost at the point now where I'm still 55, 45, but it's, he's right there with he beats everybody else, all of Katie's brothers and cousins and stuff. So you can get good when you're a little kid. That's about how old I was when I was playing 10, 11, 12 years old. Well, you can get good at we're pretty would like to say we're fun to watch if you watch this play, but it didn't start off like at three years ago.
All we'll get in the game. It looks like Kentucky and Tennessee about to tip off here in just a few minutes. Big game tonight. Yeah. Big game. Big game. Kentucky beat them down in Tennessee a couple of weeks ago and Tennessee is looking for some revenge in Lexington this week. and a half point favorite. Yeah. Is that we're getting two and a half. Yep. Yeah. I'd stay away. I'm not betting this game. I didn't really look at any games for tonight, but we need this one. This is a big game.
Jackson Robinson's out. Is that what we heard? Jackson Robinson's out. is back. He was back last game. So scary tip off. It looks like a packed house at a night. I would like to have been there. Yep. Ziegler. glad we got Butler back because he's we're gonna need him tonight. So I feel like Butler us is somebody that's hard to replace. Not that we don't have other good players that replaced Jackson Robinson tonight, but Butler just, being the guy out there with the ball and
one ball defense. feel like Butler's one that we really missed when he was gone. he's, it was last couple of games that he missed. I mean, we struggled mightily. right. So we'll keep, we'll keep y'all Kentucky fans updated here. I know y'all are probably watching the game. you ain't, I tonight, but I'm going say, I know Tennessee just beat them and I didn't bet tonight. I don't bet.
many games during the week. But I'm going to say Kentucky beats them again, just betting too. I just, uh, I think getting Butler back, gotta have this game, but they're home. I think they want to win this game. I think they'll really be locked in with having Butler and car back. Yeah. We'll miss Robinson, I think we win this game. Like Tennessee is good. Oh, hopefully Robinson gets back. I think is this hand. So shooting hand,
hopefully that's not major. Hopefully we get him back pretty soon. we'll keep y'all kind of updated on what's going on here. Like I said, y'all probably be watching the game anyways, but we will keep y'all updated. If anything crazy happens here, off the bat, look like a little steel and bucket. All right, Anthony. I just had $3,000 on Kentucky first basket. Yes. Got them.
Got him. Got him. Dude, speaking of that, speaking of that before we get into the games. Hey, let's talk about the props before we go into the game. Let's talk about the props. Let me, let me give one bet out before you go into that. I've seen this on my little Caesar's app. I saw a screenshot of it real last night in the NBA, on the Caesar sports sports book and casino app, I got turned $10 into a half million dollars on a 17 leg parlay in the NBA. Lakers, warriors, Hawks, Celtics.
Nuggets he didn't want he moved no lines Thunder Cavaliers Wizards King Nets Moneyline that was his first one he moved Celtics he'd under and there was like five or six more over unders 17 He only moved one line wonder if that moving that line helped him. I'm just curious Nets Moneyline minus a dollar 70 so they actually had to be a favorite I would say about like five or six, but anyhow 17 late parlay ten dollars and went 484. That's pretty awesome. I sent you at one the other day Charlie
of it where $20 to win $3100 or $3200. I missed it with Houston on Saturday. That would been nice. call them lottery tickets because you don't expect to win them. But Charlie, you've on a couple long ones before. I I didn't do great with my prompts here in the Super Bowl. I always bet the coin toss always. I don't even did I mention it on the
I did. I did. mentioned it on the show last week. Tales never fails. and I didn't do it. Did not bet the coin tossed. Could have won right there. My one prop bet that did win. I had hurts to score the first touchdown. I know I said it was six to one on the show last week. Yeah, I wish I would have bet it then because I only got five and a half to one, but I did hit that one. got the touchdown called back for that. So yeah, yeah, that helped too. It was.
That helped. I got that one. I didn't mention a lot of prop bets last week. We talked about the Gatorade. The Gatorade was yellow. Yep. It was yellow. They did switch it up. I picked the orange. Anthony was on blue. I guess blue or red. I you said red. I try not to hand. I think you said red. Yellow was the second favorite at plus 250. So
They switched it up just not to, not to one of our picks. My long shots for the MVP obviously didn't hit. had a Kansas city guys and that, that was a wrap in about the second quarter. had a couple that, that hit, your receiver ones that I said you liked it. Both of those hit. I look, I got all my, my ones lined out here. I only bet a couple in general. My big bet was on Philly. That was my big bet that I actually
cashed in my Kansas City Super Bowl ticket. told you that Went and took half the money pretty much. Cause I liked Philly in the game. So, and then I bet a decent little amount on Philly. Nothing monster monster, but bet a little more than normal. I mentioned last week, my home's under one and half. I didn't bet that. That actually lost last second.
That actually cost you a Super Bowl square didn't it Charlie? It did $700 Super Bowl square on that. That should have been a winner. That was a winning pick but I didn't bet it anyways. I didn't bet this either. I had him under 251 so that would have been a winner. So that would have canceled those out. I didn't bet either one. The bet that I liked a lot, that's what everybody liked a lot. I liked Barkley under 113 rushing that one and then on the receivers I had over on both of them 51 and 75. That was a wash. Smith covered AJ Brown didn't.
I liked Barkley over the 13 and half receiving yards. That would have been a winner. And you didn't bet that one. No, that was the one you kept talking about. No, the under the one I liked. No, I did like that one a lot. But the one I really liked was the Barkley under 113 on the Russian. kind of thought that they would take Barclays running game away and they would try to get him the ball. And I really kind of thought to sell on Patrick, my homes. Of course, he got those two late touchdowns.
also I talked would put a little money on a couple long shot plays 10 to 1 for overtime I might throw a couple dollars on which that would have been a loser I wouldn't have bet those very hard if I did bet I did bet a couple long shots for MVP I bet Jalen Carter I bet the tight end
for Philly, which- Yeah, and then I bet Cooper DeJon, however you say his name. And I mentioned Hertz last week, but I didn't bet him because he was just too low odds. I was looking for more odds. Hertz was at 3.75, but so I had 25, 25 on Carter and Cooper. Dude, he almost won the MVP. That would have been like $25 and win like almost $4,000.
on my ticket. I had that ticket. He had a good day. You know, he won the fans vote. I sent you that. And I know the fans don't only say they say it's 20 % 20 % and he shouldn't know probably want it. But another big play. I think he would have wanted another interception. he's a star in the making dude. First player ever to score a touchdown in the super bowl on his birthday. That would have been so cool if that would have hit. So, you know, that had to feel good. Imagine being a rookie.
playing in the Super Bowl on your birthday and you get a pick six. No doubt. needless to say best birthday of his life. he's first white corner. Did you hear that Charlie? the corner that's a, that's a white guy. I like in so many years. I didn't know it. It was crazy. It was crazy. I did not know that. There's, there's no white corners anymore. Yeah.
Speaking of props real quick, before we move on with the I did come up on one and I'll give credit to my cousin drew on this kind of pointed this out to me. And I really liked the angle. Deandre Hopkins, a couple of prop bets on Hopkins because it was his first super bowl. Just figured he would be up for it and they would probably try to get him some touches.
He only had a couple, maybe two or three catches, but I think his over under was like one and a half on the catches and his over under on yardage was only like 13 yards. He ended up with like 18 or 20 yards. He went over on the yardage and I believe, and he ended up with a touchdown. I bet a couple of them, but I had him parlayed Kansas city money line. So they went down the shit hole,
Those are some decent bets. mean, I know he didn't have a monster day, but they did. I mean, he got them in garbage time, but it, it all counts. So, the game, it just, it was never a game. like I said earlier in the show, I think the first two possessions.
The Eagles defensive line set the tone for the rest of the game. My homes was under constant pressure in the first two possessions. And after that, he show showed happy feet and they called him out. Actually, Tom Brady called him out. Another good call by time early in the game might even still been in the first quarter. Tom Brady said, I can tell by his feet that he doesn't look comfortable and you could
I told you it reminded me of the Tampa game, know, when that Tampa defense align was so good with Brady's year there. a year after that's when they went out and got him that offensive line. But I remember he was running for his life in that game. when you get pressure on people, it's a little different. It's a lot different. It's a lot different. He looked like a lost puppy out there. And I think a lot of people look like that when you get that kind of pressure and you got that kind of coverage in the secondary when you're getting it.
There was a couple of times where I saw the initial play. I mean, it seemed like he took about five sacks in a row, didn't he? And I feel like they had a blitz a lot to get it done. No, they said they, you know how many times they blitzed the whole game? How many? Two. Yeah. if you're a football guys, you know this, but when you can get home with your front group without blitzing, good luck. look, there's a lot of people that can put pressure on the quarterback when they bring the extra two or three.
But then you leave your back, you know, you leave, there's a lot of opportunities. That's what happened to Kansas City. that's exactly what happened to Kansas City's defense. You know, they were, they're a blitz heavy defense, but when you blitz, you leave a lot of opportunities on the back end. And Philly was picking up their blitz strong. mean, dude, that Philly offensive line was, I know you talk about the defense line and it did great that Philly offensive line, Kansas City was blitzing it and they were just picking it play action.
take nothing. Of course, you know, I'm a hurts hater, but man, I think all three of his big passes, they had like two or three steps on those guys. they just dominate him. He did. There was a couple of times though, that my homes got sacked and I initially was like, what is he doing? But then they would show the angle from behind.
That pressure changes the pocket was collapsing so quick changes the game. It what I know we've talked about my homes being one of those guys that gets out of the likes to get outside of the pocket and he does. But he didn't seem like he was looking to get out of the pocket. He looked like he was trying to step up in those pockets and they were just collapsing on him and it was sack after sack after sack. They had six sacks.
six sacks and they hit him 11 times. And you know, Tom Brady, picked up on this with Jalen Hurts. I think it's a great point. It's one thing to get out of the pocket, but it's another thing to get out of the pocket and have a clear view when you're out of the pocket, of open field. When you get out of the pocket and you got a clear view, open field, man, that's, you have a high, you know, like ability of getting some good stuff to happen. So pressure versus non pressure. I'd heard Rex Ryan talk about it. We've all heard about it.
But it's a difference, guys. When you gotta make quick decisions, it's hard. That's how you beat Lamar. Everybody knows the, you gotta make him make, that's all of them, Mo. It ain't just him. It's all of them. You gotta make them make quick Kansas City,
their offensive line looked really bad. I mean, what, think it was just a scheme thing. me, the biggest thing I've seen, and I kind of anticipated this Kansas city has no run game. when you're a defense alignment and you don't know if they're going to run or pass.
you gotta honor the run. So when you come out of your stance, you can't just tee off on a big pass rush move. gotta honor the run. you gotta, you know, you gotta stay disciplined in that sense. but when you're rushing the passer, you know, it's totally different. You're kind of teeing off, trying to make big moves on the, on the lineman you're facing, where when you have that running game, it makes it so much harder to get any kind of pressure on the.
on the quarterback because you got to respect the running game. If you don't, they're going to bring out pick was there. And look, I, I thought what they did was probably the correct thing. You know, you gotta stop Saquon. You gotta stop him. can't let him game. He's 57 yards. So they did their job against them. They did, but it just opened up so much in the secondary. just did guys were running, you know, that was too wide for Kansas city defense. Some guys were just too open. and they paid.
I just, Kansas City, they lost one game all year. That offensive line looked so bad. You know, maybe what you do, maybe that ain't the play. Maybe the play is to, you know, the Rams had more success than anybody against them and they kind of let Saquon just kind of do what he was going to do, try to stop it. But then, but they didn't just focus on him. And maybe that's the thing to do. Maybe the thing to do is not to try to take away that running game and make the pass game so easy. Maybe.
You let the run game go and do what it's going to do. Hopefully you can slow it down some. I don't know. something to think about. I'm going to give a lot of credit to Vic, Vic Fangio. the dolphins picked him up last year as a defensive coordinator. Everybody raved about him being one of the best defensive coordinators in the league, which he is and has been, but he stayed with the dolphins one year left. He's a Philly guy though. He's from
He schemed up a good look. Their players made the plays. I'm not taking anything away from the players, but I do think that was a well-schemed plan that they had for a two-time defending Super Bowl champ and a team that had only lost one legit game all year. That offensive line was not as bad as it looked, but it, Philly made it look really bad. And it's a combo of the great players that they have and
the game plan that they had. And they put up, they put an ass whooping on them. They just did. They did start to finish. I think Kansas city got to get them a running game. I feel like they got to get them some kind of running game going. my son was telling me something about Tyree keel coming back to Kansas city. Is that BS Charlie? have no clue. Wouldn't doubt it. I wouldn't doubt it. His dumb ass shouldn't have never left.
When I, you know, I give a lot of credit to whoever's drafting for Philly, whoever the GM is, they're drafting well right now. with Cooper Carter, Smith. I mean, really well, one of those organizations, there's only about, like I said, three to five of them that run at a high level all the time from top to bottom. They just do, there's only a handful of them and
Philly's one of them. Their ownership is great. They're, you know, they always have a good GM that's making good moves for them. That's, that's, think it's maybe it could be, I know it sounds crazy, but as I start to watch the NFL a lot, even in college football, you're almost getting like GM type people. Is the GM more important than the coach? would, I would argue to say it could be. it's important. Is it more important than the coach? I would, I would, I could argue to say in today's NFL,
I would imagine your GM is working very closely with your coach. So it's probably an extension. So you just somewhat of the coach. Okay. You do think they're working close together? I don't know. Like you think they're working. got to, if you're a GM and you're just making moves and you're not involving your coach, that's probably not going to be a good dynamic there. So I would say if you're a good GM, I would say Philly's GM is talking to the coach about the moves they're making.
So like when the, I'm not saying the coach makes the call because the GM is the GM, they're going to make the call, but you just going to snatch a, whoever the player is and trade them to another team. Are you just going to pick up at a guy? How do you know that the coach that's a guy for the coaches scheme or his, they, got to work together, don't you think? Yeah. GM and coach got to work to be successful. do. want to say this. I'm going to make something that's maybe an unpopular opinion.
But I'm going to say it now that I'm sitting here thinking about I'm going to say the GM is more important than the coach. I'm going to say it. I don't know if I'm right or wrong, but just thinking about it real quick, I'm going to say the GM is more important than the head football coach in the NFL. I'd still say it's the coach because like I said, I do think that the coach works. I don't know if I should say hand in hand with the GM, but I think it should be pretty close to hand in hand. You can't just be making moves.
And say, here, by the way, don't think you can either. can't. No, I don't think you can. But you can't be successful doing it. You have to be lucky. You're the Giants. just let Saquon go trade him over here. No big deal. Coach won't care. See where they're at. Yeah. To me. I look, I don't know the inside and out of the NFL.
but you, to me, it's common sense that the GM has got to work with the coach to make the moves to be successful. I'll tell you what the teams that of course this is common sense what I'm saying, but being able to drive well, that's big time. That was big time. There's, cause there's misses and there's hits. And when you get a hit, not only do you get a hit, you get a hit on a cheap contract.
is what you get. And that's what everybody's talking about right now is getting these players on these rookie contracts when they're cheap. getting that is huge. That's why everybody's playing these rookies right away. Because when you get on there, then you get them on the cheap and it gives you money to spend other places. And now you got a player that would cost you three times as much as that. and you still got him for two years at that. That allows you really to put together a big time team.
All right. Saquon, 25 carries, 57 yards, only 2.3 yards per carry, but he did have six catches for 40 yards. And let's not, let's, let's not pretend that he was not a big part of this game because he was, he was the focus. That's what allowed them to have so much success in the passing game. you see by that 25 carries that Philly knew what they were doing. They knew they had a lead and they knew that they were going to continue to pound the ball and try to limit the mistakes and
It was a great game. Honestly, exactly what you should do when you get up 17 points in the first quarter. I'm curious to know.
how many points Kansas City would have ended up with if, Philly was playing hard all the way through. And I'm not saying they weren't, but I'm more, you know, things, you get a big lead like at Super Bowl, time to start celebrating. What would they have got? They got the one legit, but the second one, they weren't trying to give them that touchdown. I'm not saying they were trying to, I'm not saying they're trying to give them, but it's different.
It's different when you're up like that when you're not and I'm not saying it's either way. Even if it's even if he puts the subs in there at the end, you think them subs want to come in and get fried for a touch? Yeah, but it's different. It's just different. even in the play calling upstairs. You're your defense, but your effort from the players should be no different, but your focus is going to be different when you're up, not if you haven't been in the game. Sure. But if you're out there for scores with like four minutes to go,
You're in the Super Bowl though, dude. You're trying to make a play, trying to make an interception, trying to back down a ball, trying to... You ain't trying to just... So you think a second string guy that gets in late in the game is just going to slack because... No, but he's still a second... He's still a second string guy. He's not as good. He's still trying to make a play. I know, but he's not as good. He's going against guys that are better than him. Maybe. Not a lot. I mean, a second string and a first string guy ain't that big of a difference. I mean, it could be, but...
I'm saying those guys, think they're trying. There's no doubt about that. They're trying. that gave up at touchdown was trying to make an interception. there's a lot that goes into that. The pressure you're going to put on it, the defense you're going to call. There's a lot that goes into that. I'm not saying he wouldn't have he mind of, but I was just curious. I'd have to go back and watch it and really examine it. But I just, felt like they weren't getting nothing for the first three quarters of the game. AJ Brown and Devante Smith.
Both score a touchdown. Good for AJ Brown. I did not know this and won't get deep into this, but I saw a video that when he was playing for Tennessee, that apparently there was a situation where I guess he was thinking about suicide at one point, which I had never really heard that story of about him. So glad that he is.
in a good place, hopefully now and winning Superbowls and scoring touchdowns. So congrats to both of those guys. Both got in hurts MVP. I think you could argue. I know I said this to you earlier, maybe yesterday or something about, being two Superbowls that he outplayed my homes. I looked at the stats.
It's arguable. I do think he outplayed him in both of them, but it's close. look hurts. He did what he needed to do. He played a spectacular game, 17 for 22, two 21, two touchdowns, 72 yards on the ground with a touchdown.
We've talked about it and I'm not going to sit here and pretend that he didn't have the best roster in the, in the league, because I do think top to bottom, the Eagles had the best roster, but you know how I feel about that. I'm not going to take a lot away from the guy. Yes. He's got a good team. Yes. He's got a good roster, but he played a really good game. He's been in the super bowl twice. He got it done this time. Congrats to Jaylen hurts. I like the kid. He's been a winner everywhere. He's went.
Imagine imagine being benched as a starter in the national championship game. And now you're winning Super Bowls. Imagine being benched and you were down by like 28 points in the sub that came in on the second half of the thing. One year, the national championship. And It's I understand that was that was a little Jalen hurts. Wasn't a one. I would love to see. I would love to see Jalen hurts.
in just a mediocre. He's never played in a mediocre offense. He's never played in one. He's never college Alabama, Oklahoma. what he's got going on there. Look, them throws, if you actually go back and let them, they were under thrown. Joe burrow ain't never played in a bad offense either. So he sucks too. No, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying, I'm going to take that in consideration when I'm looking at him and I'm watching him. I just, I don't see it with him. Don't throw it actually two or three of those big throws that you don't see it. What don't you see? I don't, I do not see what, what is the it?
I do not see somebody that is able to, when they take it, is able to throw like he, there's no, he never had, he sits back there a hundred percent comfortable behind a strong offense line. It's got a great running game. They play action. There's single coverage everywhere. Receivers got them beat by a step or two. And actually the throws are under thrown when you back and look at them. What you're basically saying is Jalen hurts jobs easy. Yeah.
Yeah, it hurts jobs easy. Yeah with what he had this year. Yes, absolutely So but basically what you're saying is you could just plug in any quarterback and the Philadelphia Eagles and they would just go do this any any good starter I've now I'm not comparing him to bench players. I'm not comparing I'm just saying and I'm not saying I think he's absolutely garbage I just don't think he is a high high level quarterback. I think he's a NFL starter a decent starter But when I say that a high level leader, I a high level winner. I got you. I got you. I think
I think leadership NFL, now it's not, I'm not going to say it's overrated, but everybody's in a different situation. know, say, Kwan, I know, but say Kwan and Derek Henry look great this year. there was times that the giants, he didn't look as great. when you get in a really good situation, look, that offensive line was controlling things up there, man. Play action. Those guys were, dude, they were beat.
that he made the throws a couple of them was under thrown had to come back a little bit but them guys were beat a lot of guys how much credit you take away from people for having good supporting cast it's bad but it's baffling but if i'm comparing somebody i gotta take that in consideration like if i'm really trying to analyze somebody i have to take that into consideration but what you don't know i can't just like
It's like everybody's in the same scenario. Not everybody's in the same scenario. cannot like you see my homes how he's godly the best ever the goat top going for the year and he got a little pressure on him last night and he looked like a human. Anybody can. I know I'm just saying there's there's people that deal with that week after week that's in the NFL and then there's people that have great situations every week. It's a lot easier to play. So I try to read through that whether it's good or bad and I've told you I've given Joe a credit many times.
that, you know, he's got good players on his team, but his offensive line ain't no good. His offensive line, no good. And he has to get rid of it really quick. I think that's a big testament that Joe, I Joe's the best in the game. I think he does really good under pressure too. A lot better than most. He gets, he's able to get rid of it quick. He's able to take a hit. I think the guy's proven it time and time again. they've had high level offenses with bad offensive lines. You hardly ever see that. Well, what you don't know is that Jalen hurts. Wouldn't be
good on a team that's not stacked. You don't know that. I I don't know that think he or he would. think he in my opinion, it's opinions. That's why we're here talking about him in my opinion. He would probably still be an NFL starter which is damn good, but I do not think he would. I do not think he'd be the player that he is that he's been with Billy. do not. that's just my opinion and I'm just going to think he'd the same exact player. I got you.
No, I'm not saying he went a super bowl, but I think his game would be the same. He is what he is. He, is he a top five pocket passing quarterback? Not even close. But when we're talking about the, just the quarterback position and what it takes to be a quarterback, which is not about just dropping back in this little pocket right here, throwing the ball from this one little pocket. takes a lot more than that. And
Jalen hurts has been a leader and a winner everywhere he's been. like the kid. I think it shows a lot that he could get benched like he did and continue to work and continue to be doubted. that stuff's great about it. That stuff's great about him, but that don't make you a good player. know, is a good, I know, but I'm just saying, you don't think he's a great player passing quarter. No, it ain't that. I just don't think he's a great player and I might be wrong on it.
But we won't know until Has he not? Okay, but you won't know. You will not know until you see him with either equal talent to the people he's playing or less than equal talent. He's never had it. He's never had either equal or less equal talent to the players he's on, man. Bowl against the two time defending champs that also only lost one game this year.
Well, Charlie, I cannot tell me. admit that go back and watch the game. They're wide open. They're wide open. He had the best roster, but we're not going to sit here and act like Philly just played the Carolina Panthers. No, but I don't care who they played. I'm telling you what he had to look at when he dropped back. He had a solid wall in front of him had plenty of time. didn't make no good throws. Actually, he made some good throw your NFL starter. You're going to make good throws.
but they were easy throws by NFL standards. So all of his throws were easy. didn't make all of the big throw. I thought there was a back shoulder throw. That was a pretty good throw. The other actually the couple of them long ones were under thrown. If you go back and look at them, the receivers at the one where the guy was shorted the one yard line, it's cause he had to come back to the ball. He had that guy beat by two steps, which whatever it was still, you know, it still worked, but a lot of guys, but cause they were sucking up on Saquon. All of them were play action passes
I'm not saying he's not an NFL starter. So I'm saying he's still good. He's still solid. I just don't think he's a top level quarterback and that's, and I could be wrong, but we won't know until we see him with a lesser team or a team where he don't have, that kind of situation, the feeling besides our big four or big five of our pocket passing quarterbacks that we know who they are. Okay. Besides those Josh Allen, Burrow Herbert, Josh Allen gets out.
He gets out on the move. Who else is who else are you going to take? for Jalen hurts. I mean, there's there's guys,
I mean, I'm not, I mean, I'm just wondering. got you. Uh, I, I would take Lamar all day. I would take Lamar all day. you know, of I was a beast. like course. like Matthew would take Matthew Stafford over hurts all day too. Absolutely. I Matt. I put him in that tie. He's in that big five that we talk about. would take
I think I would take CJ Stroud over him, take Justin Herbert. would. No, Herbert's in that five. I know about Herbert. I know about them guys. Listen, and I'm not a big Proc party guy. I would take Lamar over him. I would. I'm not a big Proc party guy. don't know if I would though. Who Lamar? I would. I would take him. He's a better playmaker than him, but I don't think you're winning a Super Bowl with Lamar. he just went to Super Bowl. I don't think you're going to win a Super Bowl with Lamar. I don't.
I think you could with hurts just won a Superbowl. So I think I'm taking hurts over. Do I think he's a Baltimore was pretty close this year. think Baltimore was pretty close a few times. Yeah, but they got there. I feel, but it's, but it ain't what me just Lamar went in there and he ain't just hurts my opinion. I put him in the group with a Russell Westbrook or, or James Harden. I've talked to you about this before. You can have them. They're great. They're going to put up big numbers. You're going to win a lot of games, but I just
Don't see him as championship caliber guys. That's just me. I will say this. think that I've said this, ma. I've always said this. know we disagree. and this is in general, this is coming from the heart. I think the quarterback gets too much credit and too much criticism. Both, both too much credit and too much credit. think it's so much bigger than just the quarterback. but they're the ones they're the
You know, the guys up front. they're the guys who don't always like at the big uglies don't get any. Yeah, they don't. But I think they never had, but I think they impact the game a whole do. They're just not pretty. And that's not what people are. You know, people are watching the, well, when I ask, can you run how far can you throw? How can you how much can you score? Not me. I'm just saying that's what most people are watching when the play is happening.
Most people ain't watching the line of scrimmage to see the protection. do. Don't you? Yeah. Most people don't. think. Yeah. Most people don't. Yeah. Football, you know, do you maybe it's, maybe it's cause it's a group and not like an individual. Do you think maybe that's it? That it's because it's not exciting. They're watching the ball. Where's the ball? Yeah, but it's a lot easier to move that ball if either a holes there or pockets there protection or good. Like it's a lot easier to do those things when
Everything else is working at a high level. What percentage of people watching a football game watch the football? A lot during a lot, but I do keep a 95%, but I keep a focus on the line of scrimmage and like what they're dealing with and what they're dealing with. do too. And I think football fans do. I think football fans like me and you absolutely do. I find myself watching the line of scrimmage all the time when the quarterback's dropping. Well, you can feel it. Like you can watch it. You can feel when like the pressure is caving in around
most of your just regular watching football people, know, maybe not a huge, huge fan. They're just watching the ball ball goes to quarterback. They're watching this goes to the air. They're watching it gets caught. They're watching it. and there's nothing wrong with that. I just think, I think that's probably right. I'm going to say, it's maybe because it's a whole unit.
And I get it. I agree with the ball thing. I'm on it. But I'm saying if you're trying to think a little deeper about it, maybe because it's the whole unit, it's a group of five or six guys. but look, when you look at who gets paid, that left tackle, I think is the second or third highest paid position in NFL. DTs are right up there. Edge rushers are right up there. When in that line of scrimmage, man, it is the difference. It just is. give me a mediocre quarterback and
a really, really good offensive line. That's why I give Joe so much credit. I don't know too many quarterbacks that do good with a bad offensive line. Look, take nothing away from...
my homes. but the two times in big games, I've seen him under heavy pressure. He's had rough games and that's against Brady's Superbowl in this one and nothing. Look, he's a superstar. I'm not saying my homes is not good. I'm just saying the two times he had some pressure. Imagine if he had that pressure a lot more.
Go back and watch that Tampa I think I won Tampa the super bowl that year. That, that defensive line, it ate Rogers up. They were eating everybody up with that defensive line. I think it was Dominic Sue. was a couple of other guys on there. they were peaking that defensive line was. All right. Nick Sirianni.
fourth year in, he's been to two Super Bowls and he's won one. My question is, when he went to bed Super Bowl night,
You think he was thinking these fucking Philly fans scumbags was trying to run me out of town in week three, arguing with me when I'm coming off the field. in a little rough spot and they want to jump on my back, argue with me on camera, on the field, put me on blast.
You know that had to feel sweet. I felt good for him. You know that. I good for him. And I'm sure he's going to say all the right things about the fans, which he should. But I guarantee you, when he goes home and he sits there with his wife and they're talking and they're being honest with each other.
He's like a stuck it to their ass. Once again, probably same thing with the quarterback too much criticism, too much credit. Yeah. I do think they matter, but they got a lot of coordinators, GM. There's a lot that goes into the puzzle Sirian is a good coach, man. people make it to super two Superbowls in your first four years as a coach. That shit ain't easy, dude. are trying. There's other people trying to win the game. That's what fans don't understand. They think they're the only team that's supposed to win. They think they're the only team trying to win games.
Which is fine. That's fun and games. But when you get ugly with it, I just don't like the especially when it's not deserved yet. Now there's there comes a time when it is deserved, but not even the ugliness, you know, just say, hey, it's time to go. Dude, this dude ain't no good. But to sit there and be bashing a guy And I don't know what started that, but I'm 99.9 % sure it was the fans that started it, not him. Yeah, it
They probably went low blows to get him to respond. You know what I mean? Dude, fans are awful. He's been in Philly for three years. I'm sure he's heard a lot of shit. Yep. To get him to respond to the fans in that situation had to been some kind of low blow. I had, I, got to imagine fans are animals, dude. I mean, I get it. You're a fan of the team.
I don't know. I mean, I'm not saying fans don't get some voice, because I do think they deserve some voice, but I just think people are so quick to want to fire people. somebody's job, but B, you paid him a Give him a chance to work through it, see what he can do. second time somebody messes up, you gotta look at the whole situation. Now with him, he had a pretty good team, but he only lost three games during the year.
you can have a good team. You gotta be able to hold them boys together. Cause we obviously we've seen plenty of teams history, be loaded rosters and wasted talent. We've seen it before. So I, you know, that's another situation where, yeah, he had a loaded roster. There's no doubt, but I give the guy credit for, for getting it done. Sometimes it's hard to cook.
coach a bunch of superstars, you know you've got a roster like that, if you hold that together, man, if somebody says the Jalen hurts is the high level quarterback, which I know a lot of people do and that's okay. you know, I still think he's good, but if somebody thinks he's a high level quarterback, Philly.
probably has to have the best roster post salary cap. They are loaded. There is not a weakness running back. We all know what they got. All offensive line, superstar offensive line. Hertz, whatever you think of him, two stud receivers, a good tight end, a great defensive front, good DBs. there's no weakness on that team, especially if you think highly of Hertz.
don't know of a team that was a better all around team than them. Like regardless, if you don't think highly of hurts, he's still, yeah, I agree with that. He don't have to be a top quarterback, but he is, he's still a good quarterback. If you, almost any team out there would take him and except maybe you're our ones with those five guys that we're talking most of your teams would take hurts right now.
So whatever you think about him, he's good for that team and he makes that team better. Do you think that's probably one of the better all around teams you've seen? Post-Salaricat? Is one of them, dude. They're pretty San Francisco's had some good rosters, I guess, in past. But that was a pre-Salaricat, wasn't it? No, I'm talking about here just the last few years. San Francisco's had a hell of a roster a few times. course, they didn't get it done. I feel like some of those teams that...
Did they have the stud receivers? I know they had some weapons out there. They had a few. had IU can and, and Debo the last couple of years and McCaffrey and I do think they've had a loaded rosters. That's been a, that's been a, that's been a, they fall some injuries too old, but that's been a, that's been a big disappointment, but I'm not a huge Brock party guy either. there, there you go. So
Philly, you Y'all are the champs for a year. I don't hate Philly. I don't hate him either. I don't hate Philly. I say scumbag because that's just what everybody says about Philly fans. I don't dislike Philly fans. Now I don't know if I want to go to an away game at Philly. Yeah. I might have to blend in with some neutral. I'm sure if you don't show your ass, you're all right. It's just one of them deals where.
You know, if you're going to rough neighborhoods, you just gotta be aware of your surroundings. You don't be running your mouth. I'm sure all them guys that give hell to it's probably cause they start off by just mouthing back. I'm not even saying they're running their mouth, but if you get mouth to in that place, you might just have to take it a little bit. When you go into the Crips neighborhood, you might not want to wear your blood stuff. No doubt. No doubt. All right. So seven months, we get the, who's your early pick for next year?
Think about football for seven months early pick to win the Superbowl. Yep. Next year.
tough. Who you got? I'm going go Philly or the Rams. I think the Rams, had a really young defense. I think Rams are setting on something big. How much more time does Stafford have any, and they're trying to trade cup, which had don't bother me. I'll, think Pooka is the store there. They'll hopefully get something out of cup. The Stafford still have more any, I think the Rams were closer than what people think two years in a row. the defense was really becoming dynamic at the end of the year.
I think the Rams might be a problem next year. But I do think Philly, if they don't lose nothing off that team, it's gonna be hard to handle. Philly, yeah, Philly would be an easy pick there. I'm gonna say...
I like to say Buffalo.
but I'm not sure about that. Do you think the Chiefs, I thought this was the best coaching job Andy Reid had done, because I do think they're starting to kind of maybe go through a little bit, not there yet, but you stay good for so many years, kind of like New England did, you don't draft, high for a lot of years. And eventually, that's more than likely going to catch up to you. Do you think that is starting to catch up to them?
Their main guys, I think, are all kind of locked up. Chris Jones, Patrick Mahomes. Worthy. Look, he might be an up and coming guy. that was their first round draft pick at wide receiver out of Texas. Yeah, so they'll have him for a few years. can keep doing his thing. Look, if they can keep Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Chris Jones on the defensive side, I think that Kansas City has proven over the last three or four years that they can plug guys in. Sure.
They really do remind me a lot of some of those Patriots teams that didn't have a bunch of the superstar guys just seem to plug guys in and make those guys look like superstars. Sure. Kansas City is not going nowhere for the next three or four years. They keep their best player on defense. They keep their best player on offense. They keep one of the best coaches in the history of the NFL.
They'll be all right. Kelsey coming back.
I was gonna say yes for sure if they won. I thought he would just stay and just keep rolling.
That was an ass whooping man he might need to not be emotional and take some time because they got their ass kicked. Don't make any quick emotional decisions. Take some time. The dude is in the he's yeah, he's getting a little older, but they're just keep winning. He's got the best coach and Patrick Mahomes. Why would he quit Taylor Swift money? Whatever man. I'm going to ride that out.
I'm riding it out there. They're not showing any signs of slowing down. Yeah. They got blown out in the super bowl, but they lost one game. They've been to three straight super bowls. Why would you stop? be a Taylor, ride that out to be a Taylor groupie. That ride that out that she might break up with his ass. She might be, she was, was that you that said she only likes winners. No, somebody said she was already writing the breakup song. She might be, you never know. No, I think he,
If I had to make a guess, I'd say he comes back. Who's that in the game right there? Is that a? That's Trent Noah. Okay. I think they call him like, they came up with some crazy name. The mountain, the mountain Mamba. Okay. The mountain, mountain, mountain Mamba. like it. Yeah. are up by nine right now. Nine almost halftime. good block too. Let's go cats. way. He's my favorite player. Always my favorite player on the team.
He's going to take his guy to the hoop. He goes to the rack every time. You can't stop him. That's goaltending. Yes, sir. 11 point lead for the cats with a minute and a half left against the number five. Dude, we beat the good teams. We beat the good ones. This would be our I don't even know. We'll have like four top five wins if we win this something crazy for top 10 win. We got a win in five. Let's go. I know. I know. If we do,
We've got such good way. He's got Pope's got a great resume. We've already beat Duke, Gonzaga, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi state on the road. I have no problem with this going through the middle of the year. A little bump, man. I think it's good for a team. I don't think you want to peak middle of the year. in this league. Yeah. This league is, is ridiculous. So football's over on the college basketball as we're sitting here talking about it.
SEC loaded four out of the top five. Auburn number one, Alabama to Duke three, Florida four and Tennessee five. Crazy. Four out of the top five and look at that. We've already beat Florida and Tennessee. Five L a top eight. We still play Auburn. Do we play Alabama? I think we do.
I think I feel like we got a no for a fact that we play Auburn at home. I think we got Alabama on the road. March madness would be starting soon. It's soon. Four weeks left guys. got to Kentucky has, eight games left. It'll be seven after tonight. So we are looking at three and a half.
weeks left in the regular season and then we will be on to conference tournaments. We play Alabama in two games the 22nd. Yeah who we got this weekend? We have... Texas Texas Texas yes the Longhorns.
So three good matchups tonight. There's three ranked matchups. Actually, one of them is probably going on right now. Florida and Mississippi State are both ranked. Florida got a big win at Auburn this past week. I had a money Plus like almost $4. Auburn right now is at Vandy. What did I tell you? Yep. You said you did. You did. Auburn's up two at halftime. That's a tough place to play. It is. Vandy's a decent team. They only got like six losses.
They're a good team. They're Jim. They're coaches. You got a coach from underneath the basket. That's kind of Florida at Mississippi State right now 19 to 17 halfway through the first half. So Florida's got a battle on the road against a ranked Mississippi State team and the other ranked matchup Purdue number seven right now is playing number 20 Michigan and that's a two point game to about to be halftime. So we've got some action tonight.
I haven't watched a whole lot of college basketball except Kentucky. What about you? Have you, have you been keeping up a little bit, a little bit? was, I've been locked into football, kind of going through my little depression at end of season. know, everybody loves to see the Superbowl come, but it's kind of sad because, me, I like the action. I like all the games and I think I like that more than the actual big games. I like it when there's a, all the action all day and games going off everywhere. Do you enjoy that part?
I enjoy that more than the big game. when it gets down to the final four in college, it was getting kind of sad, like only two games on Saturday. I'd like to get up and college dangay be on. And then the night you're watching Oregon versus, whoever you know, out on the West Coast. West. Yeah. So Mountain West. So it's kind of, it's been a little bit sad for me, but trying to get locked into college basketball and we got a good ball club and look to make a good run here in March.
Yeah, we need to stay healthy, Anthony. No doubt. Everybody keeps getting hurt. Carl was out there for a while. Everybody's old. actually back now. Butler went out for two or three games. I think we saw real quick how valuable he is to our team. back last game and win on the road. I know it was a bad South Carolina team, but when he was out, we struggled.
Yeah, we struggle and on the ball defense. I think he provides. He's easily our best on ball defender and he's just a good college point guard, man. He controls the game, the tempo of the game. and he's halfway decent score to be guard. He scores the ball pretty well. I like him. He's efficient. And like I said, he provides you some defense on a, on a team that I wouldn't say is a great defensive team and he gives you, he gives you good on ball
So yep, cats up by nine, half time. Yeah, I'm wrong, you're right. Nine point lead at halftime, I'll take that. When you get this win, I hear you cats. Tennessee is zero of five from three, Kentucky seven of 14. That's crazy stat. That's the difference in the game right there. It is, we gotta make sure we off the Vols. I'm sure they'll go to halftime, try to make some adjustments and try to come out and make some of them shots. need to stay focused.
So right now I know we kind of talked a little bit about the top five there.
You think anybody's unbeatable? What do you know? don't think nobody's unbeatable. I do feel like that they're, I think it's wide open, but Auburn's really good. Duke is really good. I like two teams I like, and there's other teams that are good, maybe even better in this, but two teams I kind of like besides us. I like Alabama and I kind of like Texas A and yeah, I think Alabama's in that group. now Auburn, Alabama and Duke
your top three right now. After that, I feel like it's really jumbled. A lot of four, five, six losses.
St. John's number 921 and three, the only other team other than the top three, I believe, unless there's another maybe lower tier school that snuck in there somewhere. But everybody else got more than three losses except those top three and Ricky P and St. John's 21 and three ranked number nine right now. We
still talking about Kentucky every chance he gets He's he's in a good situation I don't know who they play down there, but There he's a hot. He's a high-level coach, you know coaching probably against him. He's speaking He's going against Connecticut. Yeah, Marquette and they've got some good teams in that conference. They do Connecticut of course is you know been
two time champ. So they're playing against decent teams. I look, give, give Ricky P some credit. My man is still coaching his ass off. They're 21 and three, even though he tries to find any way he can to talk to big blue nation. Like he's still a part of big blue nation. I told Anthony last week that I think if they called Rick Patino right now and said, look, we need you to come and be the ambassador. We lost cow.
We need you here. We can't do it without you, Rick. I honestly think Rick would quit right now in the middle of the season.
and come back to Kentucky. I'm serious. He wants it so bad. I think he's trying to like stay in good graces now that he's kind of back in good graces just in the last six months. But I think he's trying to build on that. think you get older and I don't think as you get older, I think some of the, if you had any hate or didn't have any hate or whatever you had, start to kind of let go of some of I told you, I feel that way about my own wife. I'm not his age, but just from when I was young, when you're, when you're young, you're so
high
strong and when you get older that the hate shit. I'm telling you dude like I know I talk about Lamar a lot but I used to hate him. I don't hate him like it really ain't the hate's not there. He's a good kid. The hate that is not there in my heart. It's I don't hate many people no more so when I was young it was all in. I've went through my stages with Rick. Of course loved him then
hated him. Now he's trying to get back in the good graces. I just think what Rick, was one of them things that I, we all know that he lies his ass off, but I do think there's one thing that Rick has said over the years that I think is a hundred percent true and a hundred percent from his heart. And he said it multiple times over the past 20 something years.
that it was a mistake to leave Kentucky and that Kentucky is Camelot and there's not a better job. He said it multiple times and I think that is what he truly feels. And now he's seeing a Liz like the door to big blue nation is opening up just a little bit for him and shit. They open it all the way up. He's in yeah. Cal out brick back.
Pope will do it one day to Pope Pope watch next year. he'll be an assistant for Pope. You're not convincing me that Rick would not leave right now to come back to Kentucky. I don't care what anybody says he'd leave there. What did I say? They are 21 and three. He'd leave right just to be part big blue nation again. All right, Anthony, you got anything else? Nope. What are we up 12?
no, we're up nine.
You're going to make a prediction or we just not going to jinx this? Nope. No, no, no jinxing. Let's just finish this off. Kentucky. Let's finish this game off. Get a big win here. You know, I am during games. I don't once I get up, I don't, I don't, I don't like bragging on them. don't like bragging. said Texas this weekend. Is that at home or on the road? I think it's on the road on the road. So let's get this one. So be another big time resume builder for, for Pope, just adding to the big wins his first year.
we've already got plenty enough big wins to make the tournament. We do still need a couple more just W's, not big ones, just need a few more. This would be, this would be a great one right here. So let's get it done. then go to Texas and get that done. Cause you said what next week is Alabama. do think it's a, need to finish this game off tonight. Not that we have to, but it just be good. It put us at a good spot. Be a season sweep of Tennessee. That's always good.
I don't like that stat. I just seen that they haven't hit one and we've hit 50%. So it's not that I don't like it. I like it, but well, the trend probably won't continue, it could never know. All right guys, last football episode until next season. Going to be sad, but we're going to find some fun stuff to do here in college basketball season. We're going to dive head first into this college basketball. We've got
Four weeks left. We're going to be getting ready for conference seating, looking forward to what seed we're going to be looking at for conference, SEC tournament. and of course the NCA tournament doesn't get much fun. Listen guys, even if you're not a big college basketball guy, this is probably the best time to pick it up right now, but four weeks left and the tournament, the tournaments in college basketball are the best.
I'll say it. think there's a lot of luck. goes in on, but I also think that's what makes them the best because anybody can beat anybody. You got to work your way all the through the bracket. It's just a lot of fun. So, one real quick thing I meant to mention. Dickie V came back. Did you see it? heard about it. Dickie V came back. He's been battling, I think cancer there for a while and he was at, he's been out for a while. Came back called the Duke game. I think it was Duke Clemson on Saturday night. did.
watch a little bit of that. He sound pretty good. So so, it's all right. Yeah, he sound a little so so, but look, just glad to be glad to hear him back. I know.
that some people kind of got tired of Dickie V there for a while. was college basketball for a while. The guy's a legend. You can't dislike Dickie. He set the tone. He set the tone. People said they didn't like him. It's not. I think it was just a little fatigue there after a while. He's around for 30 years. I think it was a little fatigue, but he was the best announcer when I was young. He was like like him or not. Like he brought energy to it. He was the one of the first announcers really to do his homework before the internet was big. He knew where they went to high school. A lot of guys
they weren't do it. He was kind of ahead of the game on that. Now it's easy, young people out there. I could type it up back then. You had to dig a little bit, ask some questions. And he always did his research. Mediocre coach. Great announcer. They always say you don't know what you got until it's gone. That's right. You know, you could say a little fatigue for Dickie V or whatever, but
I ain't heard his voice in the last year, year and a half. And I heard it on Saturday night. It was good to just hear his voice. You named me one player, one guy that was more, that brought more excitement to the game as an announcer. No, we're even close. Gus Johnson. Okay. He does a good job. I agree. I'm not even a fan of Gus Johnson. To be honest, I think he goes a little bit too far, but I'm sure some people thought that same thing about Dickie V. I've never been a Gus Johnson fan, but he does a good job. He does. He doesn't
job and he's very very energetic but Dickie V the type of dandies baby yeah it didn't get much better than Dickie V so for all you Dickie V haters he's back alright guys we'll catch week same time same place blitz the bookie see ya
